What do you feed your dogs?

Spot got Ol'Roy mixed in.

Monster refuses to eat dog food.

So he gets a little of what ever we are eating.

This morning, he had an egg scrambled with some toast tore up in it.

Tonight he will get some spaghetti.

You know, your dogs might be eating the soaked pieces because their teeth or gums could be sore.

Spot would need his food soaked the last couple years.

Our vet advised to just put water over the food to soften it, although I would think plain, unsalted chicken broth would be ok.

Toward the end, as Sheba got older, she wouldn't eat the "good" food, anymore. I think it was too hard for her. We actually switched her to Purina Dog Chow out of desperation, and she liked that. Not the best food, but heck, she was 15.

This could be true, I know the chi is due for a cleaning I just don't have 700 bucks at the moment. I really need to get on that though

I paid $400 6 months ago. Of course Sonny is a smaller guy. But that seems to be the rate around my area. Vette, the PNW is very pricey on the strangest things.

We make our own food using chicken livers and hearts and rice and Earthborne Holistic. We also put broth on it.

Aksel eats food I make in the morning and kibble at night. His homemade food is our leftovers. Chicken, vegetables, pork, ground beef, quinoa (he LOVES quinoa!)...whatever we have had for dinner that no one wants to eat again I cut up, make a homemade gravy and mix it all together. He loves it and the vet said he is super healthy. He eats Blue Buffalo Wilderness small breed kibble and won't even LOOK at another. He would rather starve.

Have you tried Avoderm? I know a few folks who have had luck with that.

I use Nutro and although much healthier than the a lot of the crap on the market, I want to change him over to a non carb food. I went to my local pet store and was given a bunch of meal samples for him to try. Sonny is not picky though.

I do give him chicken in a "chew" toy sometimes as treats and jerky. I give him only 1/4 cup of dog food for breakfast and then a dollop of plain non fat greek yogurt. If I make scrambled eggs and there are left overs I will give him those. He loves scrambled eggs. Loves pureed pumpkin too.

My dog was picky too and i tried a couple different brands. But, i settled on this so i put her food down and she either eats it or not. If she doesn't eat, you pick up the bowl until the next morning. Eventually they get it. A lot of trainers say to put the bowl of food down at a certain time. If the dog doesn't eat it within a reasonable time you pick it up and they don't get fed until the next day. Eventually the dog learns to eat his supper.

February is dog dental health month. All the vets around here are offering a 10% - 20% discount on cleanings. It only cost $250 for the Lhasa.

Jupiter eats Blue Buffalo Chicken and Brown rice. We put a quarter of a can of Wellness 95% Chicken or Turkey, on one cup of the kibble.

She has one large Milk bone a day.

And whatever table treats she can con out of Wayne. biggrin

She goes for her Heartguard shot at 2pm.

I'm afraid of what the scale is going to say!

We bought 4 Health Grain Free food for Buddy - you get it at Tractor Supply. He eats it, but I don't think it's his favorite.

Time to look for some reduced calorie dog food, and knock off all the treats.

We need to get about 10 pounds off her by the time she has her check up in August, or the Vet is gonna have a fit! cry

Yeah my dogs have always been a good weight but I've never fed table scraps. They do get a treat in the mornings because I only feed them once in then evenings, but it's generally a greenie

I blame Wayne. When we sit down to eat, he feels the need to give Jupie some, too.

The Vet techs have told us that baby carrots and green beans are a great, low calorie snack, for a dog.

The problem is, Jupie won't eat them, raw. (She'll eat them out of beef stew, all day long. But, not raw.

So, I have an idea. I will cook up some baby carrots, and green beans, in some low sodium beef broth. I can keep them in a container in the fridge, and warm some up for her when we're having dinner. That way, Wayne will have something low calorie to give her. And, I think she'll like it.

Fingers crossed. I'll make up a batch, tomorrow. smile

some other healthy snacks are apples or broth cubes (Freeze broth into ice cubes for them)

Call of the Wild and generally try to stick with grain free.

Only dry food and smaller kibbles for some and bigger for others. they eat very very little people food, well as much as they can plot anyway LOL

Okay, I cooked some baby carrots in no sodium beef broth. I added a can of green beans.

At dinner time, we put some in a bowl, for Wayne to feed to Jupiter while we ate.

It worked like a charm! She ate them up, no problem!

Fingers crossed that this continues to work.

I figure a batch will last a week. This will be a very easy fix, if she doesn't tumble to what we are doing. wink

Ugh! My brother just paid $600+ to have one of his cats tooth pulled. It was running around with a twist tie dangling. Guess the cat broke the tooth then the twist tie got lodged in. I tell you I had to hide my laughter. But he loves his cats.

Sometimes the grocery will have roasts on sale. I'll get one and cook it. Then cut it up into bite sized chunks, then freeze. You can take out a few to thaw or feed them frozen. The good part about that is there are no fillers or artificial stuff. This is a great treat for dogs with corn and/or grain allergies.
