If you are scheduling a flight and it says "1 stop", does that mean you have to switch airplanes at the stop, or does it just mean the plane will stop and pick up more people? My daughter (21 yrs old) will be flying alone to Italy this summer, and if she only has to wait while more people get on the plane, then that's fine. But if she has to get off and then get on a different plane, I'll be worried.
The ticket will usually say if a different (foreign) airline is involved. If another airline is listed on the ticket, she will be changing planes at that stop. If no other airline, it's just a stop, with some passengers getting off and others getting on.
Check with the travel company.
She will have a blast in Italy. Good luck to her.
And mom, she's 21.
I know, it's hard not to worry. She will be fine though.

Faith isn't something that keeps bad things from happening. Faith is what helps us get through bad things when they do happen.

Agreed! I understand how nervous you are, my dd traveled to India by herself at 21.
A flock of flirting flamingos is pure, passionate, pink pandemonium-a frenetic flamingle-mangle-a discordant discotheque of delirious dancing, flamboyant feathers, and flamingo lingo.
She will probably have to change planes. Look at the itemery and you can probably see at which airport and which gates are involved. With a little digging you can find a map of the airport and see where the gates will be.
I ate and drank my way through Italy. It was wonderful. Just tell her to be sure and hold on to her purse. Thieves have been known to ride past on their scooters and snag women's bags. It's a thing there.
More often than not these days, you switch planes. I have also been in the situation where we did not switch planes but everyone had to get off with all of their belongings and then reboard.

Often the layover will tell you as well. I think it is pretty rare in international flight (and often long-distance national travel) for planes to stop just to pick up/let off. I've done it a couple times, but I fly frequently and it has been the minority.
