Has anyone watched this on Netflix? It is a series of people who live in Alaska under the most extreme conditions. I just watch that and think, what a hard life and why would any choose that? Some of them were native Alaskans but some moved there to live out the challenge.
I don't know about the really cold, but the remoteness I could love.

The daughter of a friend of mine moved to AK years ago to train and race dogs in the Iditarod. Takes a special type of person, IMO, to live in AK. Have to love the cold. She was raised in North Dakota. Brrrrrrrrrrrrrr.
I've watched this. I couldn't live all alone for that long like some of them do but if it's a whole family that makes more sense to me. If you're out there all alone and something happens you're screwed.

Forget the cold, Tiny is right about if something happens you are screwed.

I couldn't take the extreme cold. Other than that, I think I could do it. I don't want to try though, I like TV, and drive-thrus, and washing machines, and the other stuff of civilization too much.
I don't understand why someone would want to live that day to day struggle to survive when you have the option to live in civilization. But, to each his own. I can understand if you were born there and that is all you know. However, that isn't the case for some of them.
I do understand wanting to challenge yourself. And, we see shows where people do that. However, doing that as a challenge for a period of time versus living like that is a big difference.
I just can't imagine that kind of cold all the time.
