So, I'm on Pinterest and notice one of my friends is posting things for a Titanic themed party. Ummmmm, yeah, let's have a party theme based on a tragedy where most of the people died a horrible, cold, nasty death.

A hotel in NH held a Titanic dinner. They replicated what a first class dinner was like.
I think that's cool.

Unfortunately, the movies have romanticized the Titanic story over and over so people have lost sight of the bigger picture here and tragedy that occurred.
The ship takes the same course, they travel just as they did back then.
And when they get to where the ship went down, there is a memorial service.
I think, if done right, it could be both a fun and educational party.
I really don't see how it's weird at all.
