Do they not make wooden straight ladders, anymore? I want one for the new garage to get to the loft, and I can't find one. They are all fiberglass or aluminum. Weird.

I haven't seen a wooden ladder in the store in a while. They aren't hard to make, my dad made my nephew one to climb trees with. Took him maybe an hour.
We had a rickety old wooden ladder that was horribly wobbly. One day when my in-laws were visiting they asked DH what he wanted for his birthday. Worried about his safety, I told them, "He needs a new ladder! That rickety old thing he uses is not stable and needs to be put to pasture!" Well, the looks I got from MIL & SIL could have killed me. I suspect they pulled that old ladder out of someone's trash and gave it to DH years before, thinking it was some prized find and a generous gift.
At any rate, SIL gave him a giftcard for Home Depot and he used it to buy a new ladder.
You might could find one at a flea market or antique store.

I'm just saying you may have to think outside the usual box on this one.
