Fluffy clouds with a yellow centre are sweeping social media and it's all thanks to the latest breakfast fad.

The egg-ceptional looking dish is made by separating the egg yolk from the white and is popular among health nuts coming in at just 161 calories.

In order to produce the Instagrammable dish begin by separating the yolks into a separate bowl and whip the remaining whites in another.

Create a thick and fluffy consistency and fold in any extras you require, popular combinations include cheese and ham or even cubes of bacon.

Place into little piles on a baking sheet and pop in the oven for five to eight minutes just before they start to brown.

Remove and add the yolk in the centre and bake for three more minutes - they'll look like tiny clouds with a sun at the core.

HOW TO MAKE CLOUD EGGS

1. Separate the yolks from the whites and place in two different bowls.

2. Whisk the white until thick and fluffy.

3. Fold in any extra ingredients like ham, cheese and herbs.

4. Place in piles on a baking sheet, making sure to leave a hole for the yolk.

5. Bake in pre-heated oven at 450°F/230°C oven for 5-8 minutes.

6. Take out of the oven and pop the yolk in the hole, return and bake for three more minutes.

7. Remove and serve.

That's part of the fun of eating out. Let someone else prepare things you don't have time to do at home.

Add sugar and it's merrange.

It might be a new way to make an egg white omelet.

An egg is about 70 calories.  Whipping the whites with a teaspoon of sugar only adds 16 calories.  A slice of lo-cal toast is 45, plus a slice of bacon is 35.  That's is only 166.  I'd toss in a cup of skim milk at 80 calories and call it a good lo-calorie breakfast.

I'm a snob when it comes to breakfast.  I prepare an old fashioned, cooked from scratch, hot breakfast every morning. It varies between eggs, bacon, sausage, biscuits, toast or muffins, French toast, Belgium waffles, pancakes, omelets and oatmeal.  Served with your choice of coffe, juice and milk.  Most mornings I actually prepare 2 breakfast meals, an early onefor DH and I and another one for DS.

I hate eggs.

I hate the smell of eggs.

For breakfast, I had leftover crab linguine.

The boys aren't much for breakfast. I usually make a good one on weekends, but during the week they get fruit and maybe toast or a muffin. Sometimes Little Bites. And a glass of milk. And that's on a good day. They just aren't hungry, but they don't have lunch until 1:30 pm. They take a snack around 10:30 am.

I made bacon & eggs & toast Saturday and they halfheartedly ate. DH & I always enjoy breakfast together but the boys, not so much.

I prefer my yolks cooked through, but DH would probably enjoy these cloud eggs. He likes them poached.

erk.. I need my yolk cooked tho. Having it raw like that does not look appetising.

Hmmm. I didn't think it looked raw. It's baked for 3 minutes in the original recipe, so that would be the equivilent of medium poach. They talked about putting it in a frying pan first. That would up the level of cooking. I wonder if it just looks raw because it's cooked without the white surrounding it and giving it that white glaze.

DH makes breakfast, so this isn't ever going to happen in our house. To much work.

I'm not sure either of us would want a sweet egg either.

Now someone else cooking it for us would be okay. ;)

I like fried eggs so I can't see a reason to go to all this trouble.

How do you know until you try them? It's not like it is some great effort to whip up some egg whites and bake them for a few min. I love fried eggs too but love to try some new things. And, you never know, you might try it and then when you have company you can impress the snot out of your guests! Lol

Hoda and Kathy Lee tried them this morning.

They both loved them.

I don't like meringue so I don't think I'd like it. Plus that's a lot of work for an egg.

Yes. Let me know what you think after you try them. Maybe they don't taste like meringue.

They probably don't taste like much of anything. Just lightly salt and pepper them. Meringue has sugar in it usually .
