Apparently, these are the new MUST HAVE toys.  I've seen one and held it, and I just don't get it.

What am I missing?

Kids with adhd use them to concentrate on other things while spinning these things. Not sure I get it either, but my 12 yr old wants one real bad.

I don't get it either. My boys have them. The first two I bought broke within a week. The inner part pops off and the ball bearings spill out. I bought higher end ones, too. They are all the rage. #1 spins it and tosses it up and catches it while still spinning. They do "tricks" with them. It's replaced the bottle flipping rage.

It's just what it says, to fidget with.

To keep people busy.

Remember the hacky sack?

For kids with autism or ADHD, this gadget is great for helping them to focus and stay on task. I know of several families that gave this to their kid to use in school. Granted, they were kids with disabilities, but the parents and teachers I know say the toy does work for the autistic/ADHD child. Their behaviors are reduced significantly.

Everyone else is just along for the ride. ;)

I used to just use a pen for that. Cheaper and readily available.

they exercise multiple parts of your brain simultaneously--you can shift your focus from the individual blades to the spaces between them as they spin and get a clear understanding of rate vs speed(in motion) as well as improve your depth peception as you look THROUGH the blades to another object as the blades turn--also a visible example of why wheels/propellers/etc. appear to spin slowly/in reverse when filmed/shot/projected then presented on a two dimensional screen for various motion picture formats

Lots of schools are now banning them.

The boys' teachers don't mind and let them fiddle with them during reading time.
