CHICAGO STYLE ITALIAN BEEF SANDWICHES
5 or more lbs of roast beef ½ tsp salt
2 packets of "Good Seasons" Italian Dressing mix ½ tsp pepper
6 cans of beef broth ½ tsp garlic powder
2 to 5 Pepperocini with the stems pulled off ½ tsp onion powder
½ tsp oregano ½ tsp red pepper flakes
½ tsp basil Thin french rolls cut into sandwich sizes
Prep Work:
This recipe feeds approximately 10 people depending on how large the roast is and how large you make the sandwiches. Combine all ingredients in a roasting dish deep enough to hold the 6 cans/6 cups of au jus. Place the frozen roast (yes frozen rock solid) in the pan and cover. Bake at 250 degrees for 6 – 8 hours. Gently peel away and toss any superfluous fat. Flake and shred apart the beef into bite size shredding and let soak in the au jus till serving.
Serve:
· Italian Beef Sandwich - Place beef on a sandwich roll and serve plain
· Italian Beef Motza - Put mozzarella cheese on top of the sandwich and broil for about 3 minutes or till melted
· Wet Italian Beef Sandwich - Dunk in broth for extra wet sandwich
· Hot Italian Beef Sandwich - Serve with Hot Jardinières for super spicy
· Sweet Italian Beef Sandwich – Serve with sweet basil peppers on top
Sweet Pepper Recipe
1. Green peppers cored and cut up into large 1/8th pieces. Drench them in olive oil and generously sprinkle with salt, pepper, and basil.
2. Layout flat on a baking sheet, and bake for 30 min at 250 turning once.
3. Take out and serve hot on sandwiches
