How do you honestly like it? I've never had an office job but today I was offered a position to order parts, which would take me off the hangar floor and put me behind a desk.
I am honestly torn. I wouldn't be taking an hourly pay cut BUT there is very little overtime and right now I work about 15 hours a week of overtime.
But it would be nice to take it easy for once, and I would get to trade in my coveralls for super cute outfits :)

Hahaha super cute outfits! Who could ask for more! That's a definitely plus.
I've had office jobs practically my whole adult life; a secretarial career that lasted 35 years (give or take). I loved it. It can be a bit monotonous at times but most of the jobs I had were very diverse in duties (engineering firms).
However, if the 15 hours of OT are factored into your budget then that could be problematic. Is the new position secure in that you'll have it for a long time and not be phased out? Could you make the move contingent with a 90 to 180 day trial period?
Would taking some shifts in your old position be an option? Like filling in when others don't want the OT.
I pretty much work an office job. I spend 90% of my time in my office or a conference room. But every once in a while I get to put on my boots and take a walk.
An office job suits me well. I like getting lost in my work. It's not unusual to find me with my earbuds in and my nose in a book. I also like that I have a door, so when I'm having a moment, I don't have to go cry in the bathroom, I just shut my door for a couple minutes.
It really depends on your personality. Will you be able to sit still all day? Or will you get restless? Will you find that work as satisfying as working on the planes?
Office jobs are job security. Working parts supplying will be great for the resume and translates to many other companies. I could get you a job at my company once you have experience in supply.

Hmmm, lots of things to consider. Really IKWTD, is it that prestigious?
Yes, the supply chain is the heart of the company. Although salary wise it is a lateral move, resume wise it is huge! And it while your current job experience is for your current employer, learning the ropes of supply chain relates to many companies across the US and other countries. Do it. And you will get to wear your hooker boots to work. :)

Where do you want to be in 5, 10, 15 years? Is this something that would advance your knowledge, give you other skills, etc? How would it affect your current job if you left it, would you lose those skills? If you are going to move, then why not make a move for more money rather than a lateral move?
I don't know!!! I love what I do, but I'm always up for a change of pace. I don't know how easily I could learn the computer aspect, as I have next to no experience in that area except what we do on the floor.
I feel like unless I get my aviation licence I'm never going to advance with what I'm doing now. But without a butt load of money that's not going to happen anytime soon. So taking this job WOULD probably be an advancement. But a pay cut!
Ugh. Well she gave me a month to consider.

I've never known anything other than office work. There are various positions within an office, which translates to more opportunities, IMO. Plus, you get to wear cute clothes. That's what drew me in at an early age. LOL But the overtime is limited.
Do you know if they are "replacing" someone, or
increasing staff because of the work load? If the
latter, try to find someone who is already doing
that job, and see if they could quietly teach you
the ropes while you are considering it. How long
will this job last, if the work slows down?
A desk job is more transportable than the hangar
job. What if DH gets re-assigned/relocated? You
would have many more opportunities with desk
experience behind you. Does the prospective
new office manager know they would have to
train you in some aspects of computer work?
I knew nothing about computers when I took my desk job. Usually the systems needed are fairly easy to learn. I decided a while back that I was getting too old for a lot of physical work so now I flex my brain instead.

I like my physically active, wear a uniform job. I had an office job for years. The clothes are expensive and you dont get any exercise. Not for me.
I feel the same way! I had an office job for over 30 years. Lost that and had to find something. Now, a cashier and absolutely love it. I don't think I'd want to go back to office work but one never knows what's in store for us.
An office job for those who've not had one may seem like just the ticket.
I will definitely need a wardrobe makeover because my clothes are either super casual or very dressy bordering on inappropriate. I need like, dressy -casual. And more flats

Thanks everyone! I do still have to do an official interview though, the girl I'm replacing said it's just for formalities but I tried on my interview outfit last night and I have um... grown out of it... plus DH said it makes me look like a nun! Ugh.
It doesn't start until the end of August but I will probably start training before then.
