Do you know how to use an epipen?

I was just thinking about this earlier. What if you came up on someone who was in some type of allergic distress and had an epipen?

I'm sure there are directions on it but there may not be enough time for that.

Remove the EpiPen® Auto-Injector from the carrier tube and follow these 2 simple steps:

Person pulling blue cap off of EpiPen device, “Blue to the sky”
  • Hold firmly with orange tip pointing downward.
  • Remove blue safety cap by pulling straight up.
    Do not bend or twist.
Person injecting orange side of EpiPen device into thigh, “Orange to the thigh”
  • Swing and push orange tip firmly into mid-outer thigh until you hear a 'click'.
  • Hold on thigh for several seconds.
EpiPen device after use

Built-in needle protection.

After injection, the orange cover automatically extends to ensure the needle is never exposed.

Call 911 after using EpiPen®.

There ya go!

My middle son decided to check out the epi pen. He thought it worked like a pen where you click the end. Nope. End result is that he got the full dose in the end of his thumb. The emergency room had to watch him for an hour for any 'frostbite' reaction.
