Didn't see a Tuesday thread. Thought I'd start one. It's a tranquil day for me so there ya go.
Update on the flood ...
Today is the first day I've had to truly rest since the flood. Moving is done. The office has done nothing but lie to us and our insurance about what they're doing on their end so we broke the lease legally. I remain shocked that they thought it prudent to tell our insurance the new apartment is ready when it very much isn't (and we have pics and video to prove it) - blinds broken/missing on all windows, trash throughout the interior, filthy carpets, etc. As a parting shot, the office refused to give a receipt for the keys and said to return them via certified mail if we want a receipt. Alrighty then! Anyhoo, I refuse to do much today besides playing on the computer.
This is certainly a new adventure in life for us. Can't wait to see what God has in store. We've already had some blessings come out of this trial and are looking forward to see what all is to come. It's been a challenge to remain positive through all this crud but I'd like to think I've been mostly successful. I've certainly gained an appreciation for how destructive water can be. Our now ex-apartment is all but totaled. There's at least 10k worth of damage to it from the flood if it's properly repaired but I doubt the office cares about making proper repairs.
Such a great attitude, chef. I wish you the best possible luck.
Thanks :)
We're going to take this opportunity to double down on buying a house. After this experience, we're soured on apartment living. Might consider a small complex such as duplex but would very much like to avoid corporate-owned complexes.
My OCD is ticking though. We started an apartment-wide reorganization and purge project a couple weeks before the flood. We were intentionally taking it slow so we could be extra thorough. We were almost done - only had the hall closet and living room left - when the flood hit. Now, I literally can't finish the project and it's bugging me. I'll get over it but the completist in me is displeased.
This is by far the most disorganized and abrupt move I've ever made. Everything just went into whatever box it would fit in since no one (us included) wanted to spend more time than necessary in the putrid stench of that apartment. Discovered that the wall behind our bookshelf was crumpled and moldy thanks to the pipe bursting. Gross. We rented a storage unit for what we had left and it's not the least bit organized. Ah well, give it a month or so and cool enough weather will be here and we can pull everything out and organize it. Maybe. Might just leave it till we find a place to move to. On the plus side, I now have experience parallel parking an 18 foot long vehicle. I hate parallel parking as is but doing so in a moving truck was especially fun. Nothing like making an educated guess as to how close the back of the truck is to the vehicle behind it.
Well, I'm awake. Was napping and got woke up by the fire alarms in the hotel going off. Turned out the fire department was testing the systems. Thank God it wasn't a fire.
