Trudy what are you asking? I would think Fritos would be gross in a pie.

OK. Well experienced here.

"Frito Pie" is not a pastry at all. Take
a small packet of fritos, open the top,
spoon in hot chili, minced onions,
shredded cheese, wrap it in a napkin,
and serve it with a spoon. Great
"hand" food at football games, etc.

Frito pie is like a mexican casserole.

You can make it like a taco salad type dish using fritos instead of torilla chips - add seasoned beef, beans, salsa, and your other favorite stuff like black olives, top with cheese and bake to melt together. It's like a walking taco in a casserole.

It can also be made with chile instead of taco fixins. Still topped with cheese and baked.

That's a walking taco, not frito pie!

We make it with chili.

A good homemade chili, (or your favorite can if your pressed for time) over a layer of Fritos, topped with chopped onion, shredded cheese, maybe some pico, and sour cream.

That is what I saw!

But then isn't there one you put in a pie pan?

If I'm making it for a group, I put it in a baking dish.

That would be a Petro.  It was first served during the 1982 Worlds Fair along with orange tea.  Both yummy!  There are Petro's Restaurants around here.

My mom would top chili with fritos. She still does, I believe.
