My sister, brother, BIL, and DN are in the Miami/ Ft Lauderdale area. They are not evacuating.
I will be leaving this weekend depending on the path. It's actually looking a little better for me. Worse for my family.

They think storm shutters will save them. My anxiety level is off the charts right now. I have many friends staying put right now down there.

 My neighbor's daughter is in Tampa at Macdill and staying put STUPID. She could have easily driven to family in GA in the past few days. She will have to deal with 4 kids, including a newborn with power outages and perhaps worse,  Her chance to get out has passed I think.

Mom left yesterday and arrived today around 5:30.

BFF is unable to/won't evacuate, she won't leave her animals (horses). She is at the southwest corner of lake okeechobee (sp).

I will never understand staying when there are so many ways of leaving.

The horses even, surely they have trailers for hauling them.

They've had weeks of warning.

I just don't understand it.

 No, BFF and family do not have trailers for the horses/livestock.  And it was only last week that they thought that Irma would hit where they live.  

I was there last week, came home on Friday and it was not that large of a blip, just a typical hurricane coming thru is what everyone down there was talking about.  Then it hit mega levels and mass destruction this week.  

On Sunday and Monday, there was talk of evacuation to the other side of Florida with Aunt, By Tuesday, we were telling Mom to get beck here to PA and be safe.

 But there really are not.  And horses, you might have a trailer that can haul one or two at a time, but what if you have 8?  And not everyone even has that - they rent them when needed, etc.

And you realize with the Texas hurricane that Florida and the East coast of Georgia are OUT OF GAS.  My co-worker's daughter attends Georgia Southern.  They are being evacuated but there is NO GAS in Statesboro, GA and that's not even the most desperate place.  How are people supposed to leave when they can't get gas, and even if they do, with the back-ups on the highway, the chances of running out and getting stranded are high.

It's not easy to evacuate an entire state.

Even just yesterday, they changed the projections for Irma and now more places are on the evacuation list. They did not think it would go straight up all of Florida.

And it can change at any time.

At this point, Cuba is Florida's only hope. The mountains of Cuba could dissipate some of the power of the hurricane, but that means Cuba will be destroyed.

The lack of gas is a game changer. Even the Florida highway patrol were tasked with escorting tanker trucks to gas stations.

My cousin is currently visiting Florida, in the panhandle near Alabama, and they aren't even concerned.

Just found out that my cousin and family who live in ft Myers are not evacuating. They lost their house a few years ago to a hurricane. They were going to head north but now with all of Florida taking a hit they are staying put.

Heard from the 1 friend on the Atlantic side, he and his family are in ATL. with family, they left out yesterday.

1 of the friends on the gulf side is a postal worker, says he is waiting till Saturday afternoon or Sunday morning, going to see how it shapes it.

The other friend on the gulf side has been radio silent, not sure what is going on.

 Panhandle area should not be hit anywhere near as hard as the peninsula.  

Yes, LL, BFF has 2 horses, at least 1 donkey/ass and now sure of what else they may have (they have done some elderly rescues).  They do not have a trailer at all and rely on using the neighbors for any transport.  Well, the neighbors have much larger farms with more stock.

Mom's companion is supposed to go to Orlando today where his son booked a hotel room.  As much as I don't care for him, I wish he would have come with Mom.

We are good. No power but will fire up generator in the am. I haven't slept yet and am heating water in kettle with sterno for coffee 😀

It's all closed here as well. Schools, government offices, banks, some businesses.

So far, it's been a steady, soaking, rain.

Of course it isn't over yet and we are under flash flood watches and warnings.

Right now, we've had worse thunderstorms roll through.

It's 54 degrees with a real feel of 45, so it's a chilly rain.

There isn't any sustained winds, they'll be a gust of maybe 10 to 20 mph, if that much, now and then. Honestly, the wind was worse on Friday and Saturday.

All of which I am thankful it isn't worse.

Well. Seems we are experiencing the worst of it now, thankfully it hasn't been bad.

I think a bucket took flight for a minute, and the trash cans across at the park are all on their sides, but that's it so far.
