GWINNETT COUNTY, GA. — The organ transplant of a 2-year-old boy who was born without a kidney will likely be stalled for months.
The reason? His father’s latest arrest.
Anthony Dickerson, 26, is no stranger to the criminal justice system. He has been in and out of jail on misdemeanor theft charges and a first-degree forgery charge since 2011, according to Gwinnett County jail records.
So the poor baby is held hostage because of something the father has done or not?
Is this America? OMG! There is a lawsuit waiting to happen in there. That child's transplant should not be conditioned by whether or not the father has complied with his parole. WTH?
Well, I don't know. There has to be medical compliance and follow up care. So, we can't just waste organs to make ourselves feel good. However, seems like CPS could step in .
Why is the child not made ward of the court? Is the decision to not do the transplant because of the lifelong dependence on meds and reoccurring health care needs?
Is it because it's cheaper to let the child die than for the state to take on his medical needs?

I read another article on this. They couldn't give a lot of details, but the HOSPITAL said the transplant was postponed due to the new incarceration.
This is a kidney. If the dad was doing drugs and is not clean, he is not an eligible donor.
That was my first thought...
I also read that being in jail you are exposed to lots of illnesses and infections and they now have to make sure he didn't pick any of those up before they do the transplant. This wait is to ensure his sons safety.
