Morning!  I dropped DD and friends off at school this morning.  They wore their costumes.  I just had to go back because DD forgot a project that is due today.  The school was amazing.  The adults and most kids were wearing costumes.  So much fun!   I wanted to stay.aww

Wonder why they didn't do it Tuesday? But yeah, it was always fun for my kids, too.

In high school, the drama teacher used the week before and week of Halloween to teach special effects make up. Anyone in the school could get it done. Anything from simple masks to organs exposed. As long as the person wasnt allergic to latex.

Because doing so on a Friday is less disruptive than a Tuesday.

WE had red ribbon week all week.  And the last Friday of the month is spirit day, so they always get to dress different.  Of course, ours is "book character" day.

#1 had PJ day yesterday. He needed something warm. I discovered he has outgrown his winter PJ's.

I'm back to painting again. Working on the family room. I did two walls and see I need to go over a couple areas. It's not covering with one coat. Ugh. Tomorrow I'll redo and paint the last wall. Then all I have left downstairs is to whitewash the fireplace. I'll do that Tuesday probably if I don't get to it this weekend.

Interesting. I'm just going to water down some white paint and apply with a sponge, having a towel handy to remove in spots to give an aged or used brick look. If I don't like the way it turns out, I'll just paint it all white and call it my ode to the Gaines!

Exterior painting during the fall is for crazy people. biggrinbiggrinbiggrinbiggrinbiggrin

HI! Back from another road trip. Brought little man home with me.

We will get three of the other grand's and make popcorn balls tonight.

Trunk or Treat planned for tomorrow afternoon.

Party at our house for the NE game tomorrow evening.

Sunday is church and then a road trip to meet DS, to return his son to him, and to have a late lunch together.

I will drop from exhaustion Sunday night.

You all sound like your kids had a great week in school for fun activities.

Cold weekend too. It's only 26 degrees today. I am not ready for the cold. I actually hate the cold anymore. hmm

Our closest Walmart is closing.  It is now 50% off.  The parking lot was absolutely crazy.  There was not a close spot anywhere.  I only drove past it.

I don't think the Walmart here has anything to worry about. Husband and I went to dinner and he needed to stop at Walmart so I'm sitting in the car, no way am I going in.

I like Walmart. There is so much to look at.

Our Internet is being weird, I'm having to use my data. Glad it's almost to roll over day.

I don't like being in Wal-Mart, it seems so dank. But maybe that's just mine. I'll admit though I have found some really cute owl floor mats there.

We have two, opposite sides of town. 1 is much bigger than the other.

The bigger one was built way before the second.

I worked in the bigger one about 20 years ago. It was fairly nice then.

The new one is maybe 10 years old.

The bigger one is now dirty, run down, it hasn't been taken care of, the second one is well lit, clean, and well staffed.

The clientele in the bigger one is, how do I say this... generally of a certain type of people. If I were going to find a "people of walmart" person, that'd be where.

The Wal-Mart in FairOaks is old and attracts that clientele. The one in Fairfax is well-lit, clean, yuge, and attracts a more poised clientele. And it's a Super, where the other is not.

Fun fact about our Walmart, the manager is the mayor. Seriously. He's the mayor of the neighboring town and manager of Walmart.

He's a great guy and always in a good mood. So eager to help. And it's been rubbing off on his employees. I'm still against Walmart on principle, but ours isn't so bad.

Our town is on it's 3rd Walmart. They started small, and then moved to a bigger spot, and then built a super Walmart and moved there. The first Walmart is now half Ace Hardware and half antique mall. The second Walmart spot is still sitting empty.

Our local Walmart started as the anchor
of a very small strip mall. Two years ago,
WM asked for (and got!) super tax abatements
to build a larger WM at the edge of town. But
they didn't even make it a Super! And no tire
/oil change area. Dumb! Their space in the
small strip mall is now occupied by a very
successful Dollar Tree!

There are NEVER enough electric carts,
NEVER enough regular cash registers open,
sometimes only one regular, and 3 "self-
serve" registers. I REFUSE to use a self-
serve register - each one took away three
jobs for seniors/teens.

How does it take away 3 jobs? The cashiers at the Walmarts here do the bagging so I'm only seeing one job being taken. Does your Walmart work differently?

Personally, I like the self checkout. I prefer to bag my own stuff. I like bagging stuff based on how I put it away. I also like to put stuff like cheese with frozen stuff so the cheese doesn't melt.

Oh I don't strike up convos. To be honest I get the feeling a lot of cashiers don't like to make conversation either, they probably get sick of it.

That's not how it works in a small town. There is always a conversation, which usually includes inquiries about family members

I only use self check out when I have less tha. 5 things.

I don't like that it takes away jobs, however, walmart never intends to hire workers for all the check outs.

You can check out in other departments, too.

I like using lawn and garden to check out.

Because each self- checkout lane usually has 4 self serve kiosks with one person manning all 4.  It probably doesn't amount to 4 people doing a job, but it would definitely be more than one.

Our WM has at least 6 "self" checkout
registers, with only one employee helping
(or overseeing) those registers. WM could
open another regular lane, and hire 3
shifts per day per register, but no, they'd
rather make their customers wait in long
lines, just to save some money.

And they took away 3 lanes to make room
for customers waiting for their orders at
"Curbside Pickup".

It's a visual affect. You see 30 check outs, it makes you feel like the wait won't be long.

There's science behind it.

It's about the numbers. Paying 9 people a day vs paying 3.
