Active shooter burst into the local Baptist Church 11:00ish, and sprayed automatic gun fire into the congregation. The present count (unconfirmed) is 27 dead, 23 injured, including a critical 3-year-old. The shooter has been captured - no confirmation on his condition. He went from the church down our highway, and was captured very quickly. When I drove by the intersection one block from the church, there were over 40 State Trooper and Sheriff vehicles.
We've opened the Community Building with water, sandwiches, cell phone chargers for the families of the victims, so they don't have to stay at the church, or crowd the waiting room in our small community hospital 17 miles away. The Red Cross sent two trauma buses, and AirLife made multiple trips to San Antonio trauma centers.
Our prayers are with the survivors, and the families of the victims.
Glad to hear you are safe. This is the first thing I saw when I got up this morning on TV (Monday 0530 here). Another horrifying shooting; do not know what is wrong with people.... Have not heard yet what the guy based his actions on, but since he is dead (according to what I heard) we may never know. Hope that the trauma people have suffered from this will be alleviated somewhat by being together and sharing with each other. I cannot imagine what they must be feeling....
No, not the church that we attend, but a major pillar in the community. Food bank, healthy activities for the kids on Halloween, Christmas, Easter, etc.
I know that many of the people who attend this church live from paycheck to paycheck - IF they stretch it to the limit. Many of them will have great difficulty is meeting the expenses of a funeral, or a long recuperation after surgery. I may ask my TG friends for help for them in the near future.

This situation is when a gofund me is appropriate.

How horrible. I'm so sorry. The world has gone mad.

The local young man who chased the shooter was
on the phone with the sheriff's dispatch as he
chased the shooter. Initial reports are that the
shooter lost control of his vehicle about 12 miles
from the scene, going right past our road. It has
not been determined if he died from crash injuries,
self inflicted gunshot, or injuries from the local man
who chased him.
I'm concerned for my next door neighbor. Eight
of the family members were at the church. I don't
want to intrude on them just to get information.
The gunman suspected of opening fire at a church in Texas on Sunday has been identified to Fox News as 26-year-old Devin Patrick Kelley.
Devin Kelley previously served in the U.S. Air Force, but received a bad conduct discharge.
Kelley, according to officials, killed at least 26 people and wounded approximately 20 after he unleashed a hail of bullets in the First Baptist Church in Sutherland Springs, in the deadliest church shooting in modern U.S. history.
The gunman previously served in the U.S. Air Force, an Air Force spokesperson confirmed to Fox News. Kelley served at Holloman Air Force Base in New Mexico from 2010 until his discharge in 2014.
He was court-martialed in 2012 for assaulting his wife and his child. Kelley received a bad conduct discharge from the Air Force, in addition to confinement for 12 months and was reduced in rank.
Kelley worked as a security guard for a Texas waterpark this past summer, according to a resume under his name that appears online.
Investigators said Kelley didn't appear to be connected to any organized terrorist groups.
The suspect, who is believed to be from New Braunfels, a suburb outside San Antonio, was found dead in his car after he sped away from the scene of the shooting. Officials said it remained unclear whether he was shot dead by police or an armed nearby resident, or if he died from a self-inflicted wound.
Police didn’t name Kelley during a press conference, but only described him as a white male in his 20s.
Kelley was dressed in black tactical gear and wearing a ballistic vest when he arrived at a Valero gas station near the First Baptist Church around 11:20 a.m., investigators said.
Speaking at a news conference Sunday night, officials said he crossed the street to the church, left his vehicle and began firing a Ruger AR assault-type rifle at the place of worship. Kelley was then suspected of entering the church and firing at the crowds of people.
Investigators are looking into recent Facebook posts made by Kelley – one in particular that showed what appeared to be a semiautomatic weapon.
Kelley was married, according to The Daily Beast. His mother-in-law’s P.O. Box was listed as a mailing address in Sutherland Springs.

I can explain it to you, but I can't understand it for you.
Our next door neighbor lost his wife and
two of his three children. Our renter's
daughters used to ride the bus with them,
and they are completely shell-shocked.
The schools have crisis counselors for all
grades.
Moma I am so glad that church goer had a gun and shot the guy before he could get in his truck. Perhaps that is how he died and probably saved a lot more people. So scary it was that close to you.

I am on some other boards and the gun control mantra is going on. I have asked SPECIFICALLY please tell me what new laws should be enacted? Spell it out. Tell me what the new laws should be. Crickets........
We set up a GoFundMe account this morning,
but there were already at least three bogus
accounts. The FBI is investigating. Good
thing we've been a community association
for almost 30 years.

Good. Shut them down quick! It is awful how people capitalize on tragedies. Can you post a link to your gofundme?

There are two sites. At the moment, the
GoFundMe account is under the name of
Keith Muschalik/Sutherland Springs, and
the other is under Sutherland Springs
Community Association, with a link to
Randolph Brooks Federal Credit Union.
I almost broke down in tears today on my
way to DH's fishing camp. The Priest from
my church (87 miles away, and a different
denomination) called me on the (hands-free)
phone and gave me a budget to do all the
casket sprays for ALL the victims! I then
called the wholesale florist I use for special
occasions, and they will work with me to
make sure the flowers are beautiful. Good
people are still around.

What a beautiful way to show your support, Momala. I'm in tears just reading this...

We've already shut down our GoFundMe account.
The wife of the pastor put on the church facebook
account to donate to a specific account with a
specific bank in the next town, so we're doing a
wire transfer of the donations that went into our
association account.

You should alert gofundme to that so they can be on the look out for other scammers

The legitimate account, opened at Wells Fargo
Bank in LaVernia, TX is "First Baptist Church of
Sutherland Springs".
One of the larger funeral homes (multiple locations)
has offered to do all of the funerals, free of charge.
Another anonymous donor has paid for top of the
line floral tributes for every person who perished.

The generosity blows me away. but it always does whenever there is such tragedy, good people always step up.
