Wednesday already! I worked the surgery lobby Monday and Tuesday, my brain is fried! We are having the normal end of year rush. Every year people try to get surgery in before the new insurance year starts! Today I'm back behind the red line safe and sound.
Cold and windy here. Expecting rain. I have training courses most of the day.
I'm worried about the fires. The family beach house community was evacuated last night. My brother is okay so far, he says it shifted direction and passed them by.
This was yesterday. The fire was coming up over the mountain. I haven't heard anything yet today.
If you know anyone in the area who can access the beach house somehow, tell them to soak the house and property really good. I know you said the area was evacuated but maybe it's not closed off completely?
I've never been in an evacuation zone so no idea what would work or what wouldn't.
Just got confirmation that although the fire entered the colony, the beach house is okay. Whew.
My cousin is there and had gathered up her father's artwork, but I'm not sure if she wet the place down. I remember thinking last year when we were there that the grassy area behind was so dry the grass was dead and the ground so very hard. It was never like that before, but the state banned people from watering last year. Now this. It makes no sense. All to protect some little fish whose extinction would have no impact on the environment.
I saw on the news that fire fighters didn't have water. Conservation is great, but at what cost?
Glad your place is safe for now. More happy your cousin is safe.
I'm going to try to finish my Christmas shopping today.
Hope everyone is having a great day.

I know, it just makes me so sad. I was born and raised in orange county and I remember getting fresh strawberries from the local farmer and all the orange groves. The richest soil to grow fresh produce and it is now covered with houses.
We had a strawberry patch down the road, and my grandparents had acreage where they planted groves of fruit trees. It was wonderful. I have yet to taste peaches, nectarines, plums, etc., which can even come close to the freshness and sweetness.
Oh, yes! And lemons. My mom's friend sends a box of lemons every now and then from her garden. They are huge and so juicy! I bought a juicer when I lived in Glendora because my next door neighbor had a lemon tree which was close to our property. They always told me to help myself..so I would.
Our neighbors had a lemon tree and a pomegranate bush or tree. The lemon and orange blossoms were very fragrant. Knotts berry farm parking lot use to have both lemon and orange trees that smelled heavenly when they were in bloom. Unfortunately they are all gone too.
I haven't been to Knotts in years. Used to love their fried chicken dinners. My mom's cousin owned a rather large nursery in Arkansas I believe and they provided Knotts with a lot of their first berry bushes.
It's sad that so much of the land has been developed. My old boyfriend's mother still has her acreage, but my grandparents' home was demolished and the property divided up and rebuilt upon. They were in Arcadia, on Lemon Street. I'd guess there are no longer any lemon trees around there.
Just got confirmation that although the fire entered the colony, the beach house is okay. Whew.

That lack of water is a false drought and is shameful. I don't think the FEMA should have to bail them out, they voted in the water bans.
ETA to say that anyone that voted for the water ban should be the ones to not get Federal help.
