You live in an area with some really old homes.  I bet the insulation is non existent.

Warming my car up now.  Then will go out to breakfast.

My sister and her family are coming today. It’s our Christmas tonight. I took half day off work. My coworker was teasing me about taking off, since I never do. He says, why are you taking a half day?? I replied, because my nephew is coming and I like him more than you people lol

It's trying to freeze here, too.

The weather models says we could get nothing to 5-6 inches of ice or snow or both.

Well be in the teens this weekend.

I have 1/2 tank of Oil and next delivery is scheduled one week from tomorrow. 1/2 a tank would normally last two -
three months but getting concerned since my furnace is almost continuously running.

You have your fireplace, right? Use less oil during the day, when ya'll are not home, have a fire every night with the oil heat. Maybe get a space heater to help in the bedroom areas.

We have one of these, they warm up three rooms in about 5 minutes.

It does not get hot to the touch at all. We've used it as a side table while it's on.

Well I do burn wood at night.  But that is pricey too.  And those electric heaters in no way warm three rooms when it is sub zero temps outside.  It is so brutal that I don't even want to get in the car and do errands.

It's going to get even colder. It'll be below freezing here in GA most of next week - and all you northerners are setting record lows.

yep.  I am about to leave and do a return. But then I will just hunker down with the fire.  Hey at least all my laundry is getting done!  Would be a perfect day to de-decorate but DD wants the tree and village left out for her NYE's "party"

My hands are still numb from it. I gave GG gloves from LL Bean. He said they didn't keep his hands warm. Return them. I pulled them out today and wore them. Yikes he is right!

How big is your tank, IKWTDS?confuse

When we lived in Ohio, and had oil heat, I think ours held 275 gallons.

Even if it goes to -30*, I don't think you'd burn half a tank in 8 days.wink

I'm more worried about you losing power again!

Fingers crossed that, that doesn't happen!

Stay warm, everyone!

That's the size of my tank.  Yeah, don't worry too much about running out but with the temps this low if by the off chance I did run out, so much more damage could be done to the pipes and such. Worried about the power too, not all the ice is off the trees, there has been no melting and with the winds, the trees are really crackling.

DS had his 4 year old appointment today. Happy, healthy, and thriving. Vision and hearing are perfect. 41 and 1/3 inches tall, 37.16 pounds. 4 shots, including his flu shot. No bloodwork required this year. Pediatrician said he's done with vaccines till he's 11.

Still can't believe I have a 4 year old. Goodness, time sure flew. It's fun seeing his personality develop and him learn and grow.

Currently 71 with a high of 77 for today ...

*ducks*

I couldn't handle subzero temps. My idea of cold is 50. It's gotten into the late 20s here, which is frigid to me.

Why? What makes 4 stand out for you?

What all do I have to look forward to for this year?

He's already taking the 4nado thing to heart. Still has a bit of residual threenager attitude. Thinks he's biggest and best thing ever. No concept of danger. Long forgot about the inconvenience of being in a cast too. He's back to jumping off the furniture. Thinks he's a super hero and invincible. He's a little know-it-all. I step back and let him do it his way. Not for dangerous stuff but things that will let him learn that mommy knows best and perhaps he ought to listen. "You'll hurt yourself" is met with "no I won't!" and soon followed by "*whack* *WAAAAAAAHHH*" and him running to me to fix the booboo.

Because at 4 they do "bad" things just becoming independent and none are bordering on calling the police, they still tell you all the time they love you, and they look up to you and can be very sweet.

Awww! Yea, I've noticed DS becoming more sweet. He's hugging me more and telling me he loves me. He's also protective of me. If anyone says anything mean to me, he'll tell them to be nice to his mommy.

Looks like we are all frozen! Well, except for chef...grrr. J/K

We are at our high for the day of 12. And to think, today is our warm day.

Our expected high for Sunday is -6. Sigh

Wind chill will be brutal at -35 to -45. Lows will be -19 or lower, that's actual air temps.

Yup, happy new year to me.

On the up side, we get youngest DGS tomorrow. I won't take him back until Tuesday. Neither of his parents want him traveling during the most brutal cold. Heck, I don't want to travel either.

Our emergency heat is on and it is the oil furnace. The heat pump is useless in this deep cold. If it is 10, it works great. Any colder and it can't keep up. Besides, the oil feels much warmer.

Hate to even stick my head out the door!

You all stay safe and warm in this cold.

Hot chocolate with rum sounds really good for tonight.

I have hauled in so much wood that I need to invest in a quilted lumberjack flannel jacket. and Sonny has been a trooper! Had to drag him out and he poo'd right away, did the pee thing and is right back inside for the fire. Living Room is 72.

LOL, Sam doesn't mess around out there either. Gets his business done really fast lately.

Oh, how I miss a wood fire.

I think it made it to 20 today. That is normally our low, instead of a high. Between the heater working overtime, the electric throw blanket and the electric mattress pad, I have been doing what I can to stay warm.

I am so grateful for my sheepskin gloves. Warm and fuzzy and the wind cannot get thru the suede.

I went to the gym this morning and stayed in after I got home. I was supposed to run a few errands but I was not heading out in that if I did not have to.

I was thinking between the three, it'd be comfortable.

The only answer is to move south or to Arizona.

Arizona is looking good to me.

FIL would have a fit if y'all tried that!

IKWTDS: In my experience, by the time it hits 120, nothing really matters. It's tolerable to me but I'm used to it. Plus, I like the summers. But, stepping outside is like stepping into a furnace at that temperature. It really is a dry heat. You can feel the moisture leaving your body. And hey, I bet you don't know how to drive with only 2 fingers ;)

Tonight was Christmas here. Lots of good stuff had all around. Nephew got an iPad and a lego set (among other things of course). He was hugging the Lego set I got him. And I got a beautiful pair of diamond stud earrings from the Boy. They are exactly what I wanted.

And lots and lots of other great stuff. But that's the highlights. Now, I am exhausted and am going to bed. I have to work tomorrow. Boo

Missing my grandgirls, the oldest didn't want to go through security. She wanted to stay with us and have all her friends move here 💖 Chef four is a fun age, at least I enjoyed my kids at that age.
