I couldn't get the article to copy. Here's the link: http://www.msn.com/en-us/news/us/told-their-treehouse-must-go-owners-appeal-to-supreme-court/ar-BBHWbCI?li=BBnb7Kz

The last time we went down to Anna Maria, we walked down the beach and saw it.

It's a really cool treehouse.

It's a shame it has turned into such a fight.cry

So it probably should not have been built but the town told them no permit needed so the couple should be left alone. Even my town, up until a few years ago, had an old school building inspector who would say many times permits not needed or approved things that then were complained about and the poor residents that put money into things based on the inspector stance that a permit was not needed were left holding the bag. That is so wrong.

I agree. The city screwed up.

If they really want the treehouse taken down, they should reimburse the couple for every dime they have in it. Plus all the fines, and the cost of removing it.

A family near me put up a really nice 10' fence.  They asked the town and town said even though it exceeded the permit rule for height to go ahead.  It is  a fence that goes of the side of the yard blocking the house next door.  The neighbor had no issue with it.  Town hires a new building inspector and starts fining the family for having an over height fence. We had a question put on the ballot and voted to drop the matter against the family and reimburse their legal fees.

Your city did the fair thing, IMHO.

Holmes Beach should either grandfather this treehouse in, or, agree to pay all costs and fines.

One, or the other. These folks shouldn't be left, holding the bag.

Again, just my opinion.
