On Thursday Walmart CEO Doug McMillon announced the company would be awarding pay raises to employees, in addition to bonuses and $5000 to those who choose to adopt a child.

For years, the left has descended on Walmart in protest and demanded the government force the company to raise the minimum wage. The company just did as a result of Republican tax reform, which significantly slashed the corporate tax rate. Companies across the country are passing those tax savings onto their workers.
But that isn't enough for the left, which is slamming Walmart for its actions and calling them a publicity stunt.
“While pay raises are usually a good thing, this is nothing but another public relations stunt from Walmart to distract from the reality that they are laying off thousands of workers and the ones who remain will continue to receive low wages. The fact is that Walmart is not permanently investing the estimated $2 billion it will receive annually from Trump’s tax giveaway to its workers – it is keeping almost all of it. This announcement is attempt to repair a crumbling image, while ignoring thousands of its workers who struggle year after year to pay their bills or depend on government assistance," Making Change at Walmart Director Randy Parraz said in a statement.
"Instead of taking Walmart at its word, we would hope that the Members of Congress, civic and state leaders, and the media, ask Walmart for actual facts about what this means for workers. Empty words will not lift Walmart workers out of poverty, an actual living wage will," he continued.
Leftist groups like "Make Change at Walmart" aren't actually interested in helping corporate workers. Instead, they're interested in forcing big government, liberal policies on American businesses.
The Republican tax reform bill just made the lives of those who work at Walmart, and dozens of other companies around the country, better.
Yeah, they're giving out bonuses, but they're
also closing Sam's Clubs. And instead of
giving Upper Management huge bonuses,
they should be giving them 2% raises, just
like Social Security recipients got. Same goes
for all members of the Senate and House -
2% or nothing.

I personally never saw the point or any reason to go to Sam's Club so i really didnt' get the point. I mean, yes if you want to buy a lot of bulk stuff, but not something I wanted to bother with.
Yep, 63 Sam's Club warehouse stores are closing putting 10,000 people out of work.
Under performing Sams Clubs are closing. That is smart business sense. The increased # of Walmart's that carry groceries is the culprit. And the thousands of workers that are being laid off are being offered positions at other Walmarts when available.

I prefer BJ's. I like their selections more than Sam's.

But back to the point of the OP. The Libs have to slam the company for the layoffs, they certainly can't praise them for increasing wages and paying bonuses, that would be praising Trump.

I agree. I've also read that some of the Sam's Clubs will be repurposed or restructured for e-commerce. They will, at some point, possibly offer employment to those who were laid off from Sam's.
Online sales are also why the clubs and stores are closing.
Our Walmarts are hiring, starting pay is $11 an hour.
They have profit sharing, education programs, medical and vision care, employee discounts, and flexible hours.
It was one of the better jobs I ever had.

My son works at Walmart as a cashier part time. He's a full time student. They treat him very well. Walmart treats their employees a lot better around here than many other places. My oldest son worked briefly at the mom and pop grocery store. They treat their employees like crap.

I think the way this was handled was crappy. However, they are turning those locations into Internet distribution centers, and will be rehiring many of them.

The way the PR was handled was crappy. Not the business end.

There's talk of another Amazon distribution center being built somewhere around my area. I'm thinking it'll be a bit more south of here.
But that's the way we are heading. Everything will be online.

No. The business end, too. Unless you think it's "good" business to not even tell your employees they are out of a job and let them show up and find out from a sign on the door.
