We didn't pay for repairs, we replaced. And ours was only a couple years old. With a 7 year old dishwasher, I wouldn't bother. But that's just me. And appliances are no longer built to last.
I am with the "buy another one" group. It is 7 years old (and things are just not built to last any more - when we bought our new refrigerator the electric store told us the life expectancy was 5 years). And putting out $$$ for repairs that might or might not fix it for another week, month or whatever seems kind of a waste of money. Shop around and see what kind of a deal you can get - maybe some new features since you bought your last one.
A flock of flirting flamingos is pure, passionate, pink pandemonium-a frenetic flamingle-mangle-a discordant discotheque of delirious dancing, flamboyant feathers, and flamingo lingo.
Woo hoo for new appliances! IKWTDS, you are the only person I've ever heard a positive review on a Bosch dishwasher.
I think the problem is when you want a high end appliance and buy the low end of the line. Of course now that I said that my dishwasher will probably quit tomorrow.

My post now reads to me as a total slam to FWM. That is not what I meant. You may have a lemon. It happens. But I also remember you posting you didn't like the dishwasher because your plates didn't fit and I remembered that in the era you bought your Bosch the European version was being sold here in the states. That meant if you bought one of those, the US standard sized dishes didn't fit well.

No hard feelings, IKWTDS! I still love you!
I was a little irritated...that you were pushing Bosch so hard, back in the day. And, you didn't own one, at the time.
I let myself be swayed, by the salesperson at Lowes.
That won't happen, again.
I'm doing research. I won't let myself be swayed again.
(In other words...if they offered me a Bosch, for free...I wouldn't take it. That's how much I have hated this dishwasher!)
I hope you have better luck with yours!
I'm looking at KitchenAid...and LG.
Checking, and rechecking reviews, before I go to see them in person.
And, I'll take my time this time.
I don't mind washing dishes by hand, for a few days, while I decide what I want.
No more rushing. No more being swayed by pushy sales people.
Take a place setting of your dishes when you go to look at dishwashers and make sure everything fits. We did that before we bought our Bosch dishwasher that I love.
I am happy with my LG, but I will admit, I do not see a trap drain or filter or anything that requires regular cleaning like I did on other dishwashers. Because of that, I rinse my dishes before I load. I never did that before. Maybe there is one there, but I can't see it. I guess I could check the owner's manual....

Wayne is fine with that. All is well.

My complaint about the LG is the bottom racks. The tines will lower to allow for personal configuration. The problem is, they tend to flop down after unloading. Either that or DH lowers them, I'm not sure, since he unloads. But the next day when I go to put something in, I have to raise the tines back up.

Such a first world problem!

We have an expensive Kenmore dishwasher that I only use as a drying rack. I hand wash all dishes, no particular reason it's just easier for me. I probably should start using it though, what a waste.

I've had my Whirlpool Estate dishwasher since
Dec. 2004, and have had only minor problems.
(nothing worth calling for repairs). Namely, 8
of the "tines" that stick up have broken off
(rusted on the inside), but this is not a major
problem. The dishes come out sparkling clean,
and I've only ever used Cascade - either boxed
powder, or pods.
Because our water has an IMMENSE amount
of iron in it, the inside of our washer can look
very orange. The solution to this is using 3
packets of lemon Kool-ade on an empty
cycle. The inside becomes pristine white!

Here's a hint for all of us
"vertically challenged" peeps.
Moving damp clothes from the
washer to the dryer - you have
to Streeeeetttttcchh to get to
the items in the bottom of the
washer. Not any more! Take
your (clean) BBQ tongs, and
grab the items from the washer
to the dryer, without pulling a
tendon to get to the bottom of
the washer.

Momala, when this washer gives up the ghost...get a front loader!
I love my Whirlpool Duets.
And, I'm kind of tall!
Here's what I ordered. It will be a couple of weeks, before it comes in:
(I hated having to pull out the bottom rack, to load silverware. What a pain.)
And, with a re-built back, that is important to me.
I'll be happier, if it is as dependable, as all of my other Whirlpool appliances have been.
IKWTDS, I hope that your Bosch doesn't disappoint you. The way mine did.
(It was quiet. It cleaned great, once I bought new dishes, that would fit.)
Sadly, I got myself talked into it. And, I haven't had a good experience, with Bosch.
One, and done.
You couldn't give me one. For free.
Fingers crossed, that you have a better experience, than I did.
5 years on my Bosch and going strong. I hope it doesn't crap out either. Next I have to replace my fridge and washer, so will probably replace the dryer as well. :(
