The vast majority of schools are very open access. Our school is in the middle of town. And, even if we close it to one road entry, anyone could simply walk across the campus. Going forward, schools will need to be built differently with heavy security in mind. It's going to be a huge undertaking and this is going to take years to really do that.
Do we need an armed swat team around the school at all times? And the school day doesn't end at 300pm. There are practices, sports, events and many other things going on at all hours, weekends, evenings.
You know when it will end? When the process is speeded up for these perps to be put to death and show potential other perps that there is no glory in these acts. Oh and how about teaching these perps that this is real life and not some fantasy video game.

I was worried last week during our variety show performances. School was open with no security.

And from what I've read (it's still early ,and these things seem to change), it wasn't so much a school shooting as a relationship gone wrong. The fact that it was at a school just proves that killers will target the weakest link (school in this case), not knowing there would be an armed guard.
