DH and I are considering a roadtrip vacation from June 30th to July 7th. DH has never been to Niagara Falls. I was when I wass 11 and I roadtripped with the parents from Niagara Falls to Quebec. Neither of us has really been to New England without a direct reason and never played the tourist.
So, besides Niagara Falls, we are looking for suggestions that are within a reasonable drive. We plan to stay 2-3 days at NF and travel to at least one other location, maybe two. It could possibly turn into an all NE vacation and we save NF for another time. We will be renting a SUV, staying at either VRBOs or inexpensive hotels, we are not camping this time.
I appreciate any ideas/suggestions you can give me.
I went to NF with an old boyfriend whose brother lived in Buffalo and we stayed there. So I got nothing, except to say the surrounding area is...not great, to say the least, but I understand the Canada side is much better.
I was 11 when we went and we camped in the 12 passenger van my parents had just purchased. There was no third seat, Dad took out the second row and built inserts so it was like a camper inside. It was Mom, Dad, DH15 and me. I remember the Falls and eating at a rotating restaurant. We went from NF to Quebec in 7 days so a lot was spent in the van. I want to enjoy things and see things, not just drive by.
And I have heard the Canadian side is much better.
Niagara Falls - the Canadian side is
absolutely better than the US side.
In New York, head south to Oneida.
That is where the Paul Revere factory
is located. Stock up on fabulous
gifts for family and friends in their
factory outlet. Copper bottom pots
and pans, and their "seconds" are
superior to anything else.
Also look for the Oneida outlet
store. DH1 and I bought close-out
silverware in 1972 - it still looks
show-room bright, after 46 years
(including frequent dishwasher
trips).
If you follow the Hudson River down
to West Point, be sure to take a tour
there - unforgettable. Make a
reservation at the Thayer Hotel for
a romantic dinner.
