Would it be acceptable for me to host one for my daughter?

I've been to a house warming party, but not a shower. Same thing I suppose. A chance for everyone to see the new place and bring gifts if they want. A shower seems more "mandatory" as to the gift giving.

Call it a house warming party, rather
than a shower. Of course you can be
the hostess!

Showers are for weddings and babies. This would be a house warming party. People may bring gifts, and may not.

Ok, guess I used the wrong wording.

Household shower, housewarming party. Aren't they basically the same thing?

Anyway, it will be a small, family affair.

No, she did not buy a house.

But she and her SO have finally moved into their own place without roommates.

Yes. I wish circumstances were different, but they are not.

So.

I just keep loving her and being there for her and trying my best to be supportive.

No, a shower is a gift giving event with the purpose of outfitting a person for the next big stage in life - for marriage, it comes from the tradition of a dowry, and for babies, of course to help prepare for them.  New traditions allow registries for these events.

A housewarming party is a gathering of friends to your new place to basically "warm" it by filing it with friends and laughter.  Some people bring gifts, but usually something small and you normally do not register for these.

Lily, of course you have to love her and support her. She's your daughter. We do our best to raise our children according to our beliefs and in accordance with God's will. As they become adults - they make their own choices. Some of them will follow it, some will stray from it. Some will stray for a while and then realize later the importance of God's word. But the important thing from parents is consistency. We can't change our beliefs just because our children's choices make us uncomfortable. God doesn't change.

I know if my daughter made adult choices that go against God's teachings, I would still love her and support her as my daughter, but I wouldn't pay for her choices, and I wouldn't celebrate them. And I would think she would know better than to expect me to. It's not like I'm shy with my opinions. A child should still respect their parent's teachings, even when they don't follow them.
