Athletic shoe giant Nike has debuted its new “Just Do It” ad featuring former NFL player and original anthem protester Colin Kaepernick. The ad comes only days before the kickoff of the 2018 NFL regular season.

The ad features an extreme close-up of Kaepernick gazing into the camera with the caption, “Believe in something, even if it means sacrificing everything,” over his face, The Hollywood Reporter said.

Kaepernick has had an endorsement contract with the sportswear maker since 2011, but has not played professional football since the end of the 2016 NFL season.

The former San Francisco 49ers quarterback invented the protests during the anthem when he took a knee during the song throughout the 2016 season. But he hasn’t played since that year as once he turned free agent at the end of the season, he subsequently found no team interested in signing him.

By 2017 Kaepernick charged the league with “colluding” to keep him from pursuing his NFL career and filed a grievance against the NFL with the players association. After dozens of depositions were taken, an arbitrator determined last month that the case would go to trial.

Whatever. If no one wants him why do they have to be forced to sign him?

The NFL and Sporting stores and brands are so struggling with the issue. No need to struggle! Scroll on by the whiners and find someone else.

I've hated Nike ever since they used to contract with Michael Vick

Never liked Nike.

Uncomfortable, quickly worn out, and way over priced.

I'm a Reebok girl.

As for the ad, the company is welcome to contract with whomever they choose.

If people have true conviction about something, it will play out in sales.

The fact is, most people are only outraged about anything for a week or so.

Then something else comes along to oitrage them.

Yes, I think you are right.  People might stop buying their products for a bit, then business as usual mostly.  But, maybe not.  Some of these companies have hurt their brands trying to shove their politics in people's faces.  But, kind of funny that this business using child labor to make their shoes is going to lecture us on our moral compass.  lol

Just when DD14 was starting to convince me to buy her Nikes. She'll just have to find some other shoes to love.

And I agree totally with their option to hire whoever they want. But people also have the freedom to spend their money where they want.

Sooooo......

I mean, i doubt that Reebok or any of these other companies have any different views. But, until we know for sure, i can buy their brands! lol

I mean I am not going to go out and burn my Nike stuff. I expect that most of these corporations are run by people who are very liberal anyway. It is what it is. But, once they start squawking, i do start to think about my purchases more then.

And, sacrificing EVERYTHING. Really? That is very offensive. Oh gee, maybe he lost a few bucks on a job. This is disgusting. Not having your multimillion job isn't a "sacrifice".

I agree completely.  The people that sacrifice everything are the ones he likes to insult.

Well, he won't stand for the flag but he bowed down to the Alter of Nike to accept their millions, after "sacrificing EVERYTHING" of course.

Nike lost 3.75 billion in value since the announcement. That may be only a 3.16 value loss, but it's still a loss.

Glad we don't buy their products.

Thanks! Looking through my 120 pairs of shoes, I have about 12 Nike's. They are gone tomorrow. So will my Nike jerseys. Done with them...

Personally, I would not donate them. That just circulates their little swash logo further, giving them more advertising. Nope, trash for me.

We blacked out the "swoosh" with a Sharpie. I cried giving up my Alabama Jerseys. But I am done with them. Seriously, about $2000.00 worth of shoes are being donated.
