DH was in pain Wednesday, so I made appointments for his with the ortho and primary doctors for Thursday. On the way to the ortho (9:30 ish), he told me to head for the ER instead. And this from a man who NEVER complains. Because the pain was radiating from the shoulder down the left arm AND up his neck and into his jaw, they suspected a heart attack. The enzymes came back normal, and the EKG looked OK, so they gave him morphine. About an hour later, they have him another morphine. A couple of hours later, they said he was ok to go home. Fortunately, we still had the appointment with his primary, and she gave him a thorough exam, and ordered a muscle relaxant, and massage therapy, along with both occupational and physical therapy. Her diagnosis was a "frozen" shoulder.
At least this morning he wasn't in distress. The visiting nurse did a full work-up, and the physical therapist will be here Monday morning. I've never heard of a frozen shoulder. DH doesn't recall hitting his shoulder, or straining to lift something too heavy. He's sleeping now. Hopefully he'll be able to sleep tonight as well.
Oh no!!! That is so painful!!!!!!!!!!! I had it several years ago. It took forever to get back to normal. PT was excruciating. I'm so sorry! Tell him to get the cortisone shot if he can. It helped a bit.
A flock of flirting flamingos is pure, passionate, pink pandemonium-a frenetic flamingle-mangle-a discordant discotheque of delirious dancing, flamboyant feathers, and flamingo lingo.
I have heard of it. When I was commuting to L.A. my left shoulder became stiff. My friend's husband was a doctor and over ****tail chit chat he told me to keep moving it and to work it before it would become frozen. So that's what I did. I had a couple exercises I would do but mainly to move it towards the pain. If it hurt to move it a certain way, I would move it that certain way. Slowly, throughout the day. Eventually it loosened up and went away. My right shoulder has the tendency to do the same thing. I suspect because of computer/mouse use. So I do the same thing. It's getting better.
If it was a sudden onset he might want to look at his habits. I have experienced sudden excruciating pain in my lower back and realized it was from sitting on my right foot while curled up on the cough watching TV. I experienced sudden throbbing sharp pain in my heal one day when I got up to walk. I realized when I was laying on the lounge chair I was positioning my foot in a way that put undue pressure on my heal.
