We had rain during the night. More showers on the way today.

Which would be great, if it would knock the humidity down. That hasn't happened.cry

I'm not sure what we'll be up to, today.

Time will tell.wink

It's going to warm today, well warm for this time of year. I need to do some clean up work outside, hoping to trim bushes.

Not planning on doing much more, I've been way too busy and need down time.

Good morning! Another miserable day here with dreary, foggy, misty, rainy, yucky conditions. Current temp 67* with a high for the day of 80* but no sunshine. OMG I am soooooo sick of rain!

The kids are coming for dinner. Not sure if they want pot pie or chicken and waffles. Need to make a run to the store and don't wanna! Other than that, just hanging at home.

Have a great day!

#1 has croup. Seems fine except for that awful cough. Need to get him outside today so he can get his voice back.

The young woman who lived behind us with her son (same age as the boys), husband and twins moved yesterday. We went out to see them off. It is sad, even though her parents still live in the "big" house (she lived in the guest house with her family) and I know they will be back to visit. I suspect the parents, finally empty nesters, will move, too. My next door neighbor has her house up for sale as well, as she has retired and her son moved out (her husband passed away years ago). I am sad because if I do my job right, I know my boys are half way to making me an empty nester as well.

I never looked at it from the perspective of empty nesting. I always thought of it as freedom. :D

I am enjoying this stage with my kids way more than I thought was possible.

We all enjoy time together, and enjoy time doing our own things.

I woke up feeling pretty good today.

My toe doesn't even hurt.

I'm making ravioli lasagna for lunch.

Have a great day, ya'll.

FNW, hope #1 gets over the cough fast and it doesn't become something more.

Won't be much longer she'll be driving, then you won't have to take them.

Have a funnel cake and sit and watch.

Sigh I know and then I will worry about her driving with a bunch of teens in the car.

I know it will be fun.  But I really wanted to just flake out on the sofa and watch movies.  I seem to be the only parent this weekend that is willing to bring the kids anywhere and have them come to the house.  I get a lot of thank yous but no reciprocation.

Check your state laws, here, a new driver under 18 can only have 1 other person in the car with them. Unless a parent is with them.

As for being the go to parent for them, at least you know they are being looked after.

But, I get it. It's good to be a couch potato from time to time.

Oh man I remember when my dad caught me with a friend in my car. Pulled up right beside us at a stop light, what are the odds of that?? I don't live in a small town.

Anyway, he leaned over and said get your ass home NOW. Scariest freaking drive of my life. Buy the time I dropped my friend off and got home i was shaking like a leaf. He didn't even punish me, he said he figured the anticipation was punishment enough. Believe me it was!

It wasn't big deal when I was first driving.

Heck, the first night I got my license, my friends and I all piled into my car and went out to celebrate.

No one even thought about it.

We didn't have those rules when I started driving. I get the kids now all borrow the parent's cars and they drive around in a long caravan. It is comical.

DD and friends did the corn maze in only 40 minutes. It is an 14 acre maze. Farm is old and the store was almost bare. But prices were good. I am making apple crisp right now.

I think it's a smart rule. The last thing a kid needs when they are putting lives on the line is more distractions. Plus, as you know, teens tend to show off around their friends.

I agree, my daughter  was invited  to a sleep over  where the girl  just got her license  that day  and was going  to take her friends  for a cruise  in the next town 40 miles  away. When I found out I called  her friends  house  and told  her no way was she riding  in a car that far away  on interstates  and curvey roads with a very  brand new driver whom I had no way of knowing  how good  a driver she was.  I had to be the mean mom, the funny  thing was dd and another  girl  were actually  relieved.

So I engaged in a little retail therapy. Traded the minivan in for a BMW convertible. I was sad because I really liked the minivan, and found melted crayons in the glovebox when cleaning it out. Memories. But when we drove home down the country roads at night listening to the 70's at 7 on Sirius XM and the comments from the boys in the backseats, I was no longer sad. New memories.

Yay for the cool new car! Love XM. Classic vinyl is my favorite station.

Oooooh, what channel is that? I'm not very adventurous when it comes to XM. I listen to 7, 8, 9, some 90's country station, and traffic. I think I had 54 on there and the love channel because they play Christmas music in November but I cannot remember the number now. I should have taken a pic of the channels I had so I can look them up on the new car. Oh well.

When I got my license I had been driving for years.

So maybe that's why it wasn't a big deal.

I might have felt  different  if I knew the girl  driving  experience  better. They did ended up cruising around    locally.  The fact that my daughter  didn't  argue  with me tells  me she wasn't  comfortable  with  her either.

My friends and I were all over So Cal when we were 16. Learned to drive at 15, license on my 16th birthday. We used to take off for Hollywood, although my parents didn't know we were going that far. The night out wasn't a "night out" until a curb was scraped or hopped. I used to drive my BFF's Camaro because her foot would cramp up. Or we'd take my car. But roads were basically flat, unless we drove Dead Man's Curve which would always spook us out and we'd take it slow. We were never much for driving up into the hills as that's where the devil worshippers were and they would freak us out too much. We had our limits. LOL

I learned to drive on back roads and in fields.

Pawpaw would let me steer beside him as a little kid, could barely see over the dash.

Yep, no car seats or seat belts back then.

We drove everything, tractors, cars, trucks.

I was driving, and digging with, the ditch witch or front end loader at 12.

When I got my license, my friends and I were all over the tristate area.

It's actually graduated over time.  DD is getting ready to get her permit in a few months and is taking classes in prep for that.

When you get your license at 16, it's a restricted license - no driving from midnight to 4 am, and -

The first 6 months, no other people except immediate family.

The second 6 months, you can have 1 other person.

The next year, no more than 3 people.

I wasn't sure how it worked.

My kids waited till they were 18 to get theirs.

There were no restrictions.

I fear for the day DS starts driving. Or rather, I fear for my insurance rates. Hopefully, he'll get over this having to outdo Evel Knievel phase before he hits driving age.
