I saw the the old one (with Melissa Joan Hart or whoever) is on Netflix and stuff, but the new Netflix series with kiernan Shipka is really really different. There is some full-on drama with that one. I was surprised. My neice's other aunt put it on for the (10 &6) and we turned it off within 5 minutes!
Their little faces were totally bug eyed and I thought they would have nightmares about that first 5 minutes.
I think that if you're thinking cute and cheesy you're not watching the netflix one!

Loved the one with mellissa Joan Hart. Came across the new Chilling Adventures of Sabrina on Netflix and love it too. Totally binge watched the whole first season in like 2 evenings. Can’t wait for more. It’s different for sure, but I like it.
I was surprised - didn't expect it. Also didn't expect the blatant religious symbolism.
It's about a witch.
Of course there will be religious symbols.

It's about a teenage witch, and it's a Netflix production.
Of course it's going to push the boundaries.

Sorry, but taking what was a funny, appropriate show for kids and making it this ridiculously inappropriate is not to be "expected". What's next, making Peter Pan a pedophile over those lost boys?

What I'm saying is, it's a Netflix production.
Of course it's going to be raunchy.

I don't think that that is true. Netflix makes some great stuff. Have you seen The Good Place? It's hilarious - and age appropriate for pretty much everyone.
It's about a teenage witch, and it's a Netflix production.
Of course it's going to push the boundaries.

So are Fuller House, Stranger Things and The Crown. None of them are raunchy.
It's about a TEENAGE witch. It shouldn't be so inappropriate.

There are so many others that are raunchy.
And a TEENAGE WITCH.
Witches are, lorically, known for their orgies, black magic, and serving Satan.
So on a tv show it was a watreed down, but on Netflix not so much.
Shocker!
Why would anyone let a young child watch it? Because it USED to be watered down?

Obviously, you have never actually seen Sabrina, the teenage witch. No sex, orgies, satan, or black magic. It's like Bewitched for heavens sake.
Yeah, I have seen the original.
Caitlyn watched it a time or two.
Like I said she thought it was cheesy.
I thought it was boring and dumb.
But, it's still about a witch.
And the reboot is a raunchier version because all the kids that used to watch it are no longer kids.
And, really, it doesn't matter how vanilla the show is, it's still about a witch.
Making witch craft look pleasing and fun and harmless does not negate the truth of what witches are, who they serve, or what they do.

Oh, and Bewitched eluded to orgies, Satan, and demons.
It was subtle, but it did.

What???? No it didn't. Perhaps witchcraft is satanism but Bewitched was just a sit com.
Yes, it did.
There were more than one episode in which the grand coven gathered.
One episode in particular even had Samantha there, talking with her her uncle, and the dialogue mentioned a red velvet room, talking with the grand wizard, and there were comments about Tabitha attending to meet the master.
It was all subtle, but in there.

And, listen, it doesn't matter how watered down it was, this is now.
Satan ain't hiding behind inuindo and winks anymore.
A witch is a witch is a witch.

Oh, I'm fully aware Satan ain't hiding. But he's not in fictional family sitcoms, he's in the everyday watering down of values and morals that are embraced by society as the new norm.

And a show about a witch isn't helping to water them down?

Let's see, Bewitched was about a nuclear family, and contained no nudity, cussing, adultery, unwed teenage mothers, people living together outside marriage, or making meth in their basements. The woman twitched her nose to clean the house, which we all wish we could do.

And who do witches serve?
You can try to make witches ok, and no matter how much it gets whitewashed, it's still a witch.

You can't bemoan the loss of morals and the decline of society while touting the virtues of witches.
No matter how vanilla and benevolent they are.
A witch is a witch.

Faith healers? Saints? The perform miracles in the name of God, and yet their powers would label them witches.
A faith healer is not a witch, no matter the label.
Fruits of the Spirit are different from powers of witchcraft.
To compare the two shows a lack of understanding.

Sit com witches are fictional. They have zero to do with satanism.
However, they do introduce countless people to the black arts and make it ok to have it come into your living room once a week.
It makes it look cool, fun, and harmless.

So you come across someone who cleans houses by twitching her nose, you going to let her come into your house and do her witchcraft?

Santa Claus has flying reindeer and Christmas "magic" which he uses to know when you are sleeping and good or bad. So, watching Christmas movies invites witchcraft into your house too, then, right?

You really are stretching to defend a show about witchcraft.
It's really comical.

Ok. So I just watched the first episode of this adaptation of Sabrina, and I gotta say, how could anyone get past the intro without understanding it isn't for children?
First, it's rated tv 14.
Second, the imagery in the intro, alone, is extremely graphic.

Because it's not really witchcraft. You are stretching to make it evil.
Mmmhmm.
Deception is the favorite tool.

I haven't watched it. The reviews alone were enough to warn me.

And this is the same story line from the older one.
It is just more blatant in its intent.
After watching that episode I couldn't get it out of my head all night. I woke up several times praying God would clear my mind of it.
I've always loved the scary stuff, this wasn't scary, it was more indoctrination.
The breathy "praise satan" a few times were obvious in its intent.
So how many watched the original version, it was lighthearted and fun, will turn this one on, and watch and think it's great?
The original might have seemed innocent, but was it really?
Or was it just that at that time in history, the true intent needed more masking than it does now?

THis was the part that caused me to post the thread in the beginning. I have never seen such blatancy - it surprised me and I was taken aback at the boldness of the premise and the iconography.
Lily, You have go back to the day in your mind when you enjoyed sit coms and you had no political, religious or other opinion other than to enjoy the entertainment. That is all it was, entertainment. Please stop.
