Yup, we have whiteout conditions with 5 inches of fresh snow. We are forecast to get another 5-8 inches yet today. The wind is howling. No travel advised.
That means DD and DGD are stuck in the city until tomorrow at least. The hospital did offer them the room for another 24 hours free of charge, but they wouldn't be able to give pain meds or get food for our little surgical patient. So, they will be in a motel until tomorrow.
I may actually have to clean house today. Or maybe not.

Kids are off to the mills in a city nearby. I opted out. Must empty a closet so DS and put together the racks and such I bought yesterday. I am not motivated. Chilling with two dogs.

Working from home today and tomorrow. No one is in the office so why waste my gas. Trying to tidy up the house and put gifts away. The boys got laptop computers with gaming mouses and headsets. I need to set up little stations somewhere in the living areas. I don't want them holed up in their room looking at who knows what on the web or chatting with strangers. So far no worries, but I want to get them used to my monitoring without being obvious about it.
CZECH, I feel for ya. While ya'll have the snow, we are getting the rain. Flood warnings were being issued day before yesterday for this storm. 6 days of rain, at least, is beginning. Glad your daughter and granddaughter are safe and warm.
IKWTDS, if you know of a shelter that would take any clothing, they'll do more good there. The SA bundles and sells 90% of the clothing they get to other countries for deconstruction and use in other things. Caitlyn worked for SA for over a year, she said there are huge piles of clothing actually rotting in the backs of donation centers.
Hi LL, FNW, and , CHEF.
The rain is beginning. We have gusts of strong winds, too. Our ground is saturated, and there is a very real possibility of trees falling over.
Been putting off going to the grocery store. Gonna have to go soon, though, cause we are getting down to nothing.

Home from a week of family Christmas. *sigh* I don't think that my brother will talk to anyone in our family for quite some time. Nobody is super interested in hearing from him either. But, at least it is over.
Watching the Men's Jr Hockey Championships online. They're hosting the championship here in the city, but there is absolutely no way to get tickets. Watched Can/Den 14-0, Den/Rus 0-4. Slov/Swed is next but Can/Swiss startsin an hour. Will be interesting to see in Can keeps the roll, or if they get ****y after their ridiculous win.
I've been out of watching hockey for some time as well. I like watching the jrs though - they play to play. Not because they are making millions and may as well skate around the ice for a while.

I get that. The youngsters are much more fun to watch. Same in any other sport, IMHO.

Well, I know that I have posted before about my family at Christmas and how dramatic things can get - particularly regarding my SIL and how I've always been 2nd fiddle to her as my parents bend over backwards to accommodate all her needs and wants. I;ve always had my thoughts about her and that she was pretty fake. This year, though, her and DB took it to a whole new level. The two of them were entitled spoiled little brats the whole time.
Not talking to anyone but each other, whispering when they were around us, purposefully taking or moving something that someone was using (no possible way it could even be considered accidental). Being thoroughly unfair and rude to both of my parents, ignoring my dad and I when we spoke. Either turning their backs or just talking over us. A little better than my mom because she was making them the center of attention the whole time.
They were basically rude, disrespectful and (I think on purpose, but we know how I feel about my family gatherings) hurtful. They were exclusive and thoughtless (so many individual instances, but in general just incredibly thoughtless). Unless they were being fed or given something.
Anyways, on the last day unbeknownst to me, both of my parents had had enough as well. I thought that they just weren't seeing it and that it was just me, but no. DB & SIL were invited to breakfast out on the last morning, but never said if they were going or not. They got up, but stayed downstairs (there is a suite) without acknowledging anyone. Walked right by us when they took the dog out and then straight downstairs. So, when my mom went to see if they were coming, they pulled some sort of whiny not-the-center-of-attention bull**** and my mom lost it on them. I didn't even know, so totally awkward when I went downstairs to say goodbye and give him his birthday present (his birthday is today - the breakfast is usually his birthday breakfast and somewhere nice because we all leave on the 27th). He was throwing things out of the room into the living room in a fit and pretty much shoved me out of his way. "I don't know why we're in trouble!" SIL said.
Anyways, the three of us went for breakfast and compared notes. Turned out that we were all having the same experience but didn't know the others were. So, after breakfast my dad and I drove back to my city (4 hrs) because he is a better snow/ice driver than I and there are a number of mountain passes and my mom went home. We figured they would be gone by then, but she got there right as they were climbing into the car. Somehow convinced them to come inside and talk about it and they just railed and complained about how poorly they had been treated. Apparently my mom handled it really well until the end when she told them that they were being rude spoiled entitled brats.
SIL then jumped up, demanded the car keys and yelled (a bunch of times) about how she wasn't welcome in the house and she would never set foot in it again. My brother said that it was a crappy week and they stayed away because my mom (and by extension all of us) had 'bad energy'. Not welcome? After all the bending over backwards to accommodate her?????
I'm pissed. BUT, it is nice that my parents see (and have experienced, although I hate that part) what I've been dealing with for years. They're blaming her for influencing him, but I told him that it had been going on forever and that I had been treated like that by him at every family gathering I can remember. They're having a hard time holding on to that one, which I understand - he's their son - so I'm leaving it alone.
Anyways, next year I'm going to an all-inclusive in Mexico for Christmas and probably won't hear from my brother for a long time (not that that is any different - I only see them if I arrange it). Not sure what my parents will do, but right now they are not going to be in touch with him for a while either.
Yeah, I would invite the parents as well. While I, too, am pist at the way DB and SIL treated you, I am glad you talked it over with your parents and that your feelings were validated. To me, that's big. Now you can move forward and protect each other from the toxicity. Or at the very least, know that what you have felt is real and sadly, justified.
One of the saddest things I realized today is that Mom & Dad got them a bbq for their new house for Christmas. Now, whenever they bbq something they will have to remember what happened this week. What a sad way to remember.

They are too selfish to let it affect them.

Someone else said that too. I actually hope that that is the case. I hate how I feel and whatever else, I don't want anyone else to have to feel like this (even if it is their own damn fault). I'm mad, but I'm also really sad.
