I'm so angry this morning.  We are going to Six Flags today and we invited a friend of Jojo's to go with us.  She hadn't seen her in a while b/c this girl switched schools.  She was soexcited.  The girl's mom emailed me at midnight and told me the girl found out her dad was taking her sister horseback riding today, and so she wanted to go do that instead.  She'd had to take a raincheck on Six Flags.  WTF????  Less than 12 hours we're supposed to go, and she cancels with no apology b/c she decides she wants to do something else.  Her mom missed an excellent teaching opportunity about social obligations, and this is going to hurt Jojo's feelings.  And how am I supposed to find someone to go in the next 2 hours?  It's mean and inconsiderate, will pretty much ruin the day, and I'm sooooo mad.

I would be mad as well. Parents just don't care about teaching kids social obligations. Evident by the lack of RSVPs and the request to bring additional kids to a bday party.

Tree taken out this morning. Pine needles all over. My house cleaner is supposed to show up today, if she doesn't I will have to vacuum. I know first world problems.

Taking a couple out to lunch today. The wife was a childhood friend of Mom's and she and her husband live nearby. Mom always visited her when she came to my house.

I finished cleaning my closets. A friend is coming over later to find items to wear. She was promoted at work so no longer can wear scrubs, she needs professional type clothing. The family doesn't have a lot of money so I am so very happy to help her out. Plus she has a daughter DDs age but smaller than DD. DD just purged the clothes that she has outgrown so I want this friend to look them over for things for her daughter.

Tomorrow I am calling the local charity we have in town that help families get on their feet. I decided to donate all the clothes to them rather than Goodwill.

LL, I can understand your anger and disappointment on your DD's behalf. The friends mom did miss an opportunity to teach responsibility to her DD.
On the up side, this is an opportunity for you to teach your DD that plans do not always work out and we can choose to make the best of it or whine all day. Let your DD make the choice. Now go and have fun. :)

IKWTDS, you are an amazing lady. I like the way you think. Yeah, I do not donate to Goodwill either. You will be able to help lots of families with your donations.

I was going to get all my quilting stuff out and set up in the dining room today. But, DH informed me we are having guests tonight for supper and HE is getting all the food ready. I think I can wait a day.. lol.

Hope everyone has a great first weekend of 2019!

Good morning ! I don't blame you for being upset LL, that is so rude and yes the parents failed in teaching their child about social obligations and consideration that not only their child was invited, but you purchased the ticket for them.

Ikwtd I hope you enjoy your lunch with your friends today, sounds like you got a lot accomplished and what a extra blessing to be able to help your friend.

Yesterday while I took the oldest grandson out to lunch my dil and the baby went to get groceries, she noticed a man sitting in a truck across from her just staring at her as she walked into the store and later when she came out he moved from the parking space to the one right next to her car on the driver side. She of course became very uncomfortable and went back into the store and explained to the manager the situation and asked if a employee can walk her to the car, the manager assured her that she wasn't being paranoid and sent a employee out with her and stood in between the truck and my dil so she could get the baby strapped in the car seat and get in herself and continued to check her rear view mirror to make sure she wasn't being followed .

Yup. Today sucks. My parents got an apology for how my brother treated them at Christmas. So they've told me that I should be a 'bigger person' and reach out to him because he is sorry.

Um, he doesn't get to say sorry to them and pretend that it is okay with me. Apparently he 'didn't see' how he was impacting the family at Christmas. So, because it's okay with them they need to pretend that it is okay for me. And he apologized to them for his behaviour over 5 days. How about my 20 years before that?

I didn't even get a thank you for the birthday gift I sent him. This morning his girlfriend sent me a happy birthday text. Nothing from him. Am I supposed to pretend that it is from him too/

LL, you should definitely not let it ruin your day. You will have an AMAZING time at six flags. Do you have one right near you? The closest one to me is California I think. Wish I could go with you!

I'll be the one that goes against the grain.

A child wants to spend time with her dad and sister instead of a friend? Sorry, I wouldn't have a problem with that.

And how is that going to ruin the day? I loved taking my kids to those places just us, we always had a great time.

Anyway.

The ceiling is fixed, just needs painted, meanwhile, I'm watching a Death Race marathon and cleaning.

Feel better than I have in days.

IKWTDS, enjoy lunch.

CZECH, enjoy dinner.

LINDLEY, smart on your DIL.

Hi CHEF and VETTE.

Ha!  Z-Dog has decided that going out in the middle of the night is the best thing ever.  Of course, he does actually need to go out - like, emergency level - so I think it is about him getting old.

The short notice cancelation is what would do me in. It's just plain rude. And guess what, we can't always get what we WANT in life. Especially at the expense of other people. Everyone should learn that from a young age.

I can see the Dad thing if it was a super special thing. Like he's been away in the military or whatever and has not had girl-time in forever, but if he's a regular dad, these things can easily be postponed for other commitments.

I’ll be a little different. LL, I feel for you and it sucks. But the person I feel for the most is that other sister. Sounds like dad knew daughter 1 had fun plans, so he planned a day with daughter 2. Now daughter 1 has decided to totally crash the 1-on-1 time he had planned and daughter 2 was probably really excited about.

There is also that. Definitely not an excuse. That makes it worse as far as teaching daughter appropriate behaviour.

Yes siblings may feel bad that the other sibling gets to do something fun with a friend, but it doesn’t make it right. It is rude unless there is illness or a emergency to cancel at the last minute especially when the host purchased a ticket (which I’m sure wasn’t cheap) because they wanted to do something else. I don’t blame the child, she doesn’t know better but the parents should.

Well, poop!

Jesse was on his way to a job interview and rolled into the back of another car.

Both were coming to a stop at a red light, the car in front of him hit their brakes and stopped suddenly. Did no damage to their car, busted Jesse's radiator.

Thankfully, no one was hurt.

Glad no one was hurt, Lily.

I was on the front end of an accident just like that on Thursday. Only I was sitting there waiting for traffic to clean so I could turn. I was very annoyed at getting rear ended.

Hope he can get the radiator fixed soon.

 Nope. His car is totalled.

The car he hit was a small SUV, he was driving a pt crusier.

Their car didn't have a visible scratch, and they drove it away.

Jesse's had to be piggy backed home.

My conspiracy theory brain is wondering if it was an intentional accident .

See, the woman driving the SUV slammed on her breaks before where she needed to stop.

And her sil happened to be there, his vehicle had been hit in the rear end at some point.

And there just happened to be another family member there with rear end damage to his car as well.

Jesse needs to tell his insurance that the other car had prior damage and also report that to the PD.

For sure. When I hit a car that had a lot of old damage I took a ton of photos and called my ins company even before the cops arrived and make sure they knew about all the other damage.

Why would people conspire to have the rear end of their vehicles damaged? That doesn't make sense. Especially since the SUV had no damage that Jesse hit.

IMHO, we need to keep a safe braking distance while driving. Kids can dash out into the road, or a dog might run out in front of someone you are behind, the car next to you or them may swerve your/their way, or any number of other reasons. We just need to pay closer attention to traffic and keep a safe distance.

I get the frustration, but it happened.

For the insurance payout. They won't fix the car and just keep the cash.

There was a witness said Jesse was at least 2 car lengths behind the woman, everyone was coming to a stop at the red light. Also said she stopped further back than normal. Jesse said he was slowing, dropping below 25, and she slammed on her brakes.

Why would people purposefully cause a crash?

Insurance money.

I'm not making excuses, caution is always important.

However, Jesse is a cautious driver.

He leaves lots of space, drives below the speed limit, and is a super careful driver.

Of course, Jesse will pay the fine.

 OK - so update.

I scrambled and found another friend to take with us.  Jojo is usually with us, but she wanted a friend b/c DD14 had a friend going.

So mind you, I originally had planned to leave at 11:00 - that was the time given.  We bumped it to 11:30 after all the morning changes.  At 12:32, as we are pulling into the Six Flags parking lot, the original Mom texts me and asks me where we should meet for me to take her child to Six Flags.  At this point I'm so confused, and I was like, "Huh?  You cancelled our plans last night."  She says, "Yes, sorry.  I sent you another email saying to disregard."  So I checked my email - she sent it at 11:57 - an HOUR after we were supposed to leave saying that there was a miscommunication with her husband and the girl would be free to go to Six Flags.  I just told her we invited someone else and were already at Six Flags.

So, YES, I bet Dad did use the opportunity to make plans with the older sibling and then the little sister tried to horn in and while Mom said yes, Dad said no.  But, she said she'd explain later.  I'd say that they should both have learned a valuable lesson.

Yep.  That friend would not be invited on another outing if it were me.

This actually wasn't my issue.  We have season tickets and had extra friend passes.   My issue was Jojo's feelings at being dumped by her friend at the last minute and not having a friend to take with her.  Luckily, we were able to invite someone else and they had fun.

I actually lied to Jojo and told her the friend was sick and that is why she couldn't go.  I mean, geez, wouldn't that hurt your feelings to find out your friend just found something better she wanted to do than spend the day with you?

yes, it really does. As the friend that got cancelled on frequently, I'm all for you sparing Jojo that feeling.

I think it was best you lied to Jojo.  My opinion on not be inviting that friend for future events is more about the Mother, not the kid.  Of course the kid is not to blame for the Mother's rude behavior.  She is obviously that type of person who has no consideration  for others'.  One does not accept an invite, cancel hours before and then expect to change plans again.

Why did you lie? Now you've set a precedent that lying is ok.

Could've just told Jojo that her friend was doing something with her family and ask who else she wanted to invite.

What??? JoJo doesn't know it was a lie. IvI' done the same thing so DD wouldn't be upset and so still be able to have a good time.  You've never told a white lie to a 5yo?

First, no. I never lied to my kids.

Second, if Jojo and the girl are such good friends, they will talk, and this is going to come up.

Then what?

And they say they are injured and sue the policy.  Hire one of those firms that advertise on TV.

You going to tell her I lied?  Because she is never going to know.  I lied because she is 8 and she was already crying over her friend not coming because she was sick.  I certainly didn't need her feeling bad about herself because of a rude, thoughtless, inconsiderate, mean choice by her so called friend.  I know what would hurt her feelings and what wouldn't because I'm her mother and that's my call to make.

They no longer go to the same school and will only talk if I arrange it, which will not be anytime soon.  And if it does happen, I'll make it clear to the mom what I told Jojo to spare her feelings.
