Do I go to the yellow pages? I need someone who is just a generalist, to manage my contracts and make sure that all of my legal-butt is covered. I want things (like my trade name) to be official.
After being jerked around at work last month I want to make sure that I am covered.
How do I know if someone is good (and unfortunately, cheap). Is there a Ratemylawyer.com?
You can call the consumer hotline at the Canadian Bar ASsociation - www.cba.org but they don't recommend usually, just give you the names of local attorneys that practice in that area.
Avvo.com rates lawyers in the U.S., but not usually all of them, I don't know about Canada.
The best way in my opinion is to ask people you know who they would use.

I can explain it to you, but I can't understand it for you.
I don't know enough people in the city who work with lawyers, so word of mouth would be hard. I went to the CAB (thank you, LL) and they have a 'find a lawyer' function, but it doesn't work (of course).
It asked, though, what kind of lawyer I was looking for, and 'general' wasn't an option. I chose 'family law - unbundled'. Would that be a good choice, or is there a different name?

Try "Corporate".
