The sun is shinning at full blast, and it's got me thinking Spring planting.

I really want to bring color to the yard this year.

Anyone have pompas grass? I'm afraid it may get too big, but I like it. Advice?

Other than that, just cleaning.

Happy Saturday!

We had some grasses that were much smaller. I think the total height was 2-3 feet. It was very pretty. But when the patio went in the grasses were not saved.

Basement family room almost done with the purge. I got stuck on looking through photos of my 20-30's. Such a riot and walk down memory lane.

Pampas grass comes in white or
pink - they may come out with a
red in a couple of years, which
would add a bright spark.

Is it only for warm weather areas?  Or would it survive the winter in the NE?

I have seen them in whites, pinks, corals, and purples.

I think the soil has a lot to do with the color.

My sister texted me last night. My niece and her guy secretly planned a wedding, called them and told them to show up at city hall. Easy peasy, boom! I'm so glad they did it! They have an 11 month old and she's 4 months pregnant.

It can get big. I see lots of people who cut it down to maybe 6 inches high and then it fills back in pretty quickly.

From what I'm reading, they get as big around as they are tall.

That's one reason I'm hesitating at getting some.

Ornamental grass should always be cut down to ground level in the fall. Amazing how much bigger it will grow the next year.

Pampas grass thrives in the South.
Look at the map from the catalog
to see if it is appropriate for your
area.

It can be cut down every year (do
it in the fall), and you can divide
it every couple of years.

It likes a sandy loam soil. Avoid
any soil that has clay in it - too
hard on the roots.

 I missed this.

Happy for them!

We have monkey grass, it's a really pretty, dark green, with bright purple berries/seeds.

We cut it back every year, and it comes back thicker every time.

My soil is super sandy. It's really hard to grow some veggies but peppers love it!

Some grasses can get rather tall. It's great if you have something you want to screen out. Some can be evasive as well. Just check the growth habits before you chose.

Best wishes to the niece!

I hope y'all in the north are gearing up some back up heat sources in case you lose power. It's going to get deathly cold this week.

We are going to dip to the mid 20's Tuesday. Thankfully the rain will be gone by then.

Awwwww thanks but I'll be okay for sure. No problem. I'm use to this. I remember the first year I moved to upstate NH. It was the coldest winter they had there in probably over 50 years. The average daytime temp for almost two months ranged from - 30 to -50. That was my welcome to NH. Where I'm at now doesn't even come close to that. lol

Hey I look at it this way. Can't control power loss. If pipes burst nothing I can do about it. Just file a claim.

I hate power outages. I was particularly scared when there was a storm and the boys were sick and needed power for their nebulizer. Last year we lost power for days and it was so cold we had to stay elsewhere. I love my generator.

We have always had an alternative way to heat if power goes out.

The funny thing, our house is connected to the county barn across the road, and since they use that as staging for any and all weather happenings, we get power before anyone else around.

So neighbors have come here in the past.
