Yeah, did my taxes in less than 45 minutes. Not knowing how the tax law change would affect me overall I did the due diligent thing and had a small extra taken out each pay period. Well need to cancel that! Nice return, not that I am proud to have such a huge return but am perplexed by those who owe so much this year, hence the belly aching title.

Those who are complaining are the ones who can't do math.
Less taken out of paycheck results in a smaller refund.
So, if you paid let's say, $1300 less in federal taxes in 2018 (money which stayed in your pocket) and only got $500 back in refund, you still got to keep an extra $1800 for the whole year. People do not understand that part.
I hope I explained it right. If I'm wrong, at least I tried. ;)

Faith isn't something that keeps bad things from happening. Faith is what helps us get through bad things when they do happen.
Unless one pulls up last year's taxes to make comparisons, the amount of one's refund doesn't tell anything. Each tax year is different. Deductions, income (more or less overtime), maybe a small windfall, inheritance, changes in your investments, etc. So anyone just saying on I got X last year and now this year I got X-1 or X+1 arent necessarily making an accurate comparison. So, until my taxes are done and I can look at this year and last year side by side and calculate actual percentages, I won't know if i paid more or paid less.
I havent' gotten a refund in years. I almost always owe, which i prefer. That way the govt doesnt' get free use of my money all year. I pay enough and withhold enough to not get penalized but i always owe.
