We got another half inch of rain last night, but it's mild and sunny today. Yay!

I went for my walk. I'm going to get some laundry going. Take a shower.

And then, I'm going to pick up Jessi and Cate, and head to the mall to look around.

I'll probably get back to weed pulling when I get back. It should be easier after all this rain.wink

My backyard container garden is coming along. I'm not quite done, but I'll post a few pictures in the Break Room on the Garden thread.

I hope everyone has a good day!smile

Hey.

The rain is heading this way, it's cloudy and you can smell the rain.

Have fun, all of you.

Less than 2.5 weeks till Vegas! Looking forward to it. I hope DH gets to sing with Big Elvis again. He had so much fun doing so the last time. DH found out yesterday that Rich Little does a meet and greet after his show so he's super excited about that. He says he'll be the youngest person in the room.

Preschool is quickly winding down for DS. Can't believe my little stinker is going to be in kindergarten soon. We bought him a graduation bear for his graduation. Planning on buying a copy of Oh, The Places You'll Go and requesting his teachers over the years write a sentence or two to him and giving that to him when he graduates high school. We figure it will make a fun keepsake for him of his preschool-12th grade years and be more personal.

Hey Trudy ~
Isn't your hair salon the one that
gives out drinks while you're there?

Chef, just an FYI, he probably will never remember this time of his life. At least my boys didn't start remembering events until around first grade. I say this because I took them to so many places and did so many things with them at an early age, wore myself out from it, and they have no recollection.

Took the boys to work today. They received a tour of the centralized animal facility, came away with some cool stuff, and made things with a 3D printer and 3D printer pen. Pretty cool even for me!

Animal facility? What do you do for work FNW?

I finally found a great pet sitter that I love. She hasn't forgotten to come by (yet) like my last one did several times. I know my doggies are in good hands (and even my spiders, she checks on them too)

I work for NIH. The animal facilities are lab animals.

Speaking of lab animals, my brother, the one who finally got his PhD at 38 or 39, has decided he wants to own and operate a bar/BBQ joint.

Yep. He's never even worked a day in a restaurant.

He's been competing in BBQ contests all over the south for the last 10 +/- years.

So he has found a place in town that he wants to buy and run.

I don't think he knows what he is getting into.

I have to wonder if people who get their PhDs aren't just professional students and then don't know what to do once they've gone as high as they can go.

Chef, enjoy Vegas to the fullest. I sure would like to go again. Just such an exciting city!

Lily, try to talk your brother out of his business. Anything food related seems to be just a headache and not much profit. Would hate to see him go under.

Rain all day here and humid but never fear, winter temperatures are forecast for Friday onward....

Well, he immediately took over the lab his mentor was over after graduating.

He says it has to do with money drying up.

Research money is being cut drastically, so, he says he is done.

He can teach, he has taught at the college here a couple times already.

Hope the cold doesn't hurt you. Seems it hurts more every year.

As for talking my brother out, there's no such thing.

I tried talking to him about all licenses, and codes, and requirements, and the hours it takes, and everything I dealt with just as a manager.

He wasn't having it.

So. Let him stubborn himself into a hole.

Now, for the record, I want, and hope he succeeds.

I will just keep my mouth shut from now on.

Well, who knows? He might make a real success out of it. From one rib place to a nation wide chain. It does not hurt to dream.... Might as well make that international.

I think it's great when people follow their dreams. Sometimes it works out well, some times it doesn't. But either way, at least they tried.

True.

It just seems like an awful lot of work and sacrifice, by the whole family, for him to get that degree, just to smoke butts.

Work and Sacrifice is what the Yankee Work ethic is all about.  Sure sometimes one will fail but you can't fail unless you try.  Most successful business people have failed a lot until they found their niche which they can't find until they fail at other things.

Thing is, he hasn't failed with his degree.

He simply doesn't want to use it anymore.
