Dilemma! So we live at the end of a very quiet cul-de-sac. No rowdiness going on here. All of a sudden our direct next door neighbor puts up this huge obnoxious RED sign that says "DRIVE LIKE YOUR KIDS LIVE HERE". Cute right? NOT
Did i mention it's huge?
It's so freaking ugly, and yes, it's technically on their property line but it is RIGHT on the edge of our yard so it looks like it's OUR sign!!! It's embarrassing to me! Nobody speeds through our neighborhood, like, ever, except get this, THOSE NEIGHBORS. All the time the lady backs out of her long driveway at it seems like a hundred miles an hour. I am always extra careful leaving mine because they frequently come speeding out.
I have GOT to do something about this ugly sign, it's driving me up the freaking wall (no pun intended). We do have an HOA. But seriously, part of me just wants to confront the neighbors and at the very least ask them to move it to the other side of their driveway so it doesn't seem like it's OUR sign.

Or was it a bad five minutes that you milked all day?
Our house is to the right, their driveway is on the left. You can't see their house because it's down a ways, they have a long driveway. The sign doesn't look as huge from this far away but closer up it's pretty big.
First of all that is not a huge sign. But second you must have zoning laws that this may violate. First talk to the neighbor about it, let them know it is not needed especially near your house. If they don't move it, call your town.

Honestly, I would ignore it for awhile. Maybe they are having a snit about something and will get over it. A lot of things resolve themselves. Could you just simply ask them if they would mind taking it down in a week or so? That way, they made their "point" and will have calmed down and I think it will be a done issue. Be patient. Then if they don't, then go to the HOA. Anyway, that would be my approach. Do what works for you.

Actually, Vette, I wouldn't talk to the
neighbors about the sign. Therefore,
when you complain to the HOA, they
won't know that it was you who made
the complaint. Let the HOA bear the
brunt of their displeasure, not you &
DH, so you can continue to be on
speaking terms with them.
I couldn't get the picture to come up.
What does it say? Is it a political
sign?
If it isn't on your property, it's none of your business.
Sorry. I will never support anything, HOA, regulations, or anything else that tells someone what they can or can not do on their property.
Unless they are physically hurting another living being, none of my business.
But, you could go over and politely talk to them.
"Hey neighbor, how you doing. Would you move that over a little bit? I'd really appreciate it."
Most of the time, all you have to do is be polite.

OMG. Spotlights. On the sign, but accidentally pointed into their windows. When they ask you to get rid of them you can talk about how important that sign is and that it should be seen by all. If they want the lights pointed elsewhere they'll have to move the sign!
