Yay for half a day!

You can go home, and watch The Golf!wink

I finished weeding and mulching the south side of the house today. Other than a little hand pruning in the front, I'm calling it good! Yeehaw!!biggrin

I just need to water the plants out back, before I hit the shower.

I should try to get caught up on some indoor chores. We'll see how much I get done, in between commercials. LOL!

I hope everyone has a fantastic Friday!smile

And the heat wave has begun! Main road is being paved and traffic is being detoured onto my quiet street. It sucks how fast people are driving. Makes me want to put spike strips on the road.

I'm taking today easy. Clients aren't super excited about booking sessions on the weekends so I make the most of the time around them. Of course, I'm not taking the time outside - except for dog time - because I'm packing to go to the lakes tomorrow morning for a few days and there is a drag show tonight that I'm going to with some friends. That will require a fun outfit and lots of glitter. I've been making homemade glitter body gel :D

I am done work at 5 and my friend at 6 with the show starting at 8. Gives us time to swing into our 'costumes', have something to eat (or sip!) before the show at 8. Then it's a rush home to get to bed because I want to be packed and ready to just throw the frozen food in the cooler and stick it in the car for an early start. I don't really want to drive one of the top 3 most dangerous roads in the country with summer tourist traffic (ew).

The countdown has begun! Hard to believe another school year is here already. Kindergarten starts on Monday. DS met his teacher last night. So far, he's quite pleased with her. His preschool teacher is teaching Kindergarten this year and his classroom is across the hall from DS', which made DS very happy. DS promised Mr. T that will visit him every recess. DS' desk is front and center. Good place for him so that he doesn't get a chance to goof off. He was absolutely delighted to see his EduKit on his desk. He loves getting packages and was thrilled that this big box was waiting for him to open and unpack. He got his desk set up and put his backpack in his cubby. He'll be eating breakfast and lunch at the school. I went over the menu with him for the first week and he was happy with it.

I love this EduKit thing that his school does. So easy. Order in May and it'll be on his desk each year at Back to School night. Price is fair. I don't have to worry about if something is the correct brand, color, whatever because it's all approved by the school. And, the best part? My package loving kid gets a package to open. I also like what MIL pointed out - It gives him a sense of belonging at school. It's his box, his supplies, his desk. It's like the school sent him a welcome package.

I'm shocked that he'll be rotating classes at the Kindergarten level. He has his main teacher but they also do specific subjects in other classes plus the standard PE and library classes. He'll have Spanish, computers, art, and music this year. They weren't kidding when they say they prep the kids for college from day 1.

Another first day of school pic coming soon!

 No. Charter school.

If he got any more excited, he'd explode. I love his excitement for school.

How fun for him, and you.

Remember when the only thing you needed for kindergarten was yourself?

First grade you needed a pencil and a first grade writing tablet.

Just wait till all the other expenses kick in.

It's so oppressively hot and humid.

Breathing outside is difficult.

I just went to a new coffee shop by my work (it's not new - it's just new that I go there) because I felt like I was spending way too much time at the one I usually go to. Ugh. Terrible service, 1 staff who didn't know where/what/if they had whatever product anyone asked for. The Vegan cookie was terrible (I really only ate the 2nd half because I paid for it). Speaking of paying, smaller latte for more money. Not happening again.

What is the difference between a private school and a charter school?

Eh. We'll make it work. One year at a time. I'm ok with helping the teacher replenish classroom supplies, tissues, etc. We did it in preschool and we'll do it each year as money permits. We're not rich by any means but we make it work. I'd rather the teacher spend money on fun, enriching learning activities than crayons, etc.

I feel it's wrong that teachers are expected to pay for basic supplies out of pocket. Never mind that they're so underpaid for the important job they have - educating the next generation.

Charter schools don't charge tuition whereas private schools do. Generally speaking, anyway. Different areas may do different things. Both require you to apply to the school.

For DS' school, they charge for preschool but not K-8. Free preschool in my area is pretty much only for those below the poverty line and for kids with delays. I will say that the price his school charges is well below what a stand alone preschool charges and you get a lot more for your money. You have to apply each year but kids who are continuing in the school get dibs.

Tig, Charter schools are an alternative to public school.  The towns school per pupil tax money is shifted to the charter and the charter school is still under the guidelines and such as any public school. However students entering Charter schools have to be accepted, unlike public school.  It seems to work well.  I wish I had done this with DD.
