Steve King seems to have some unusual ideas about the benefits of rape and incest....      Freedom of speech is fine and having one's own ideas is fine but a politician should really think a bit before opening his mouth.

I have not posted  a link because there are so many news articles on this I figure you have already seen it.   Just wonder about how the geeks feel about this?

As much as I have compassion for the victims, I have to say I agree with him. The child is a victim as well, don't kill it.

That guy has always been a whack job.U.S. Rep. Steve King told the Westside Conservative Club on Wednesday that humanity might not exist if not for rape and incest.

"What if we went back through all the family trees and just pulled those people out that were products of rape and incest? Would there be any population of the world left if we did that?" he said at the event in Urbandale, Iowa.

"Considering all the wars and all the rapes and pillages taken place and whatever happened to culture after society? I know I can't certify that I'm not a part of a product of that."

The Kiron Republican was defending his position of not allowing exceptions for rape and incest in the anti-abortion legislation he tried to pass in Congress. Republican leadership had prevented the bills he sponsored on banning abortions from advancing through the House, despite GOP support for the measures, King said.

Just because a conception happened in bad circumstances doesn't mean the result isn't a person, argued King, who is Catholic.

"It's not the baby's fault for the sin of the father, or of the mother," he said.

Ok, i assume this is the context? I think the "Would there be any population of the world left if we did that" and those comments are extreme and bizarre. Yes, there would be a huge population left if we took out rape and incest. However , I agree with this "Just because a conception happened in bad circumstances doesn't mean the result isn't a person".

I mean the guy is kind of whacky for sure. But, there are people on the planet now and since the beginning of time that were the result of rape or incest. That doesnt' make rape or incest right or justifiable. However, those people exist and their lives matter too.

Which is my point.  I always try to read through the dramatics.
