Good morning all.

Getting ready to bring DD and her friend to the local Food Pantry for a second day.  They are boxing up holiday meal boxes for families.  The Pantry is a coordinated effort by many of the churches in town. One thing DD told me yesterday is she was told that unfortunately some people sign up at all area food pantries and so receive such boxes from several sources.  It really puts a pinch on the amount of food that can go to all in need.  Not sure how I feel about this.  I am sure some of these families need the food and not really abusing the system.  I told DD not to worry about that part and to continue doing what she is doing.

Well hopefully the people really need the extra food. I have volunteered for something like this and it disappointed me how some people only look up from their iPhones long enough to complain about something they are getting.

We used to have that problem with hamper programs. Now families are crosschecked and removed from any additional lists.

Just back from my week away. It was both fantastic and weird.

Most of the places giving away food keep lists, and a person can only receive from a place once every 3 weeks. Meaning church A the first week, church B the second, community kitchen the third week, back to church A the fourth week.

So to get food each week, a person hits all of them.

Went to church this morning, stopped by the Dollar tree for some odds and ends, been home long enough to eat, and now Caitlyn and I will finish with the decorations and clean up.

I want to hear about the weird vacation, too.

I had a neighbor who visited all the church food banks each week.

Our community since it is a small town all the Churches work together to help the community, those who apply for aid to receive help gets a certificate to a local grocery store to purchase their holiday meal and the manager makes sure that is not used for all junk food or cigarettes, they don’t sell booze so no worries there. Before they started this a lot of them were getting duplicates. It is disheartening when you bring them food and to hear some get mad because they received a turkey instead of a ham.

I too want to hear about the strange trip

Just got back from our local Feast of
Sharing, sponsored by our local ice
house (convenience store). Its a full
thanksgiving dinner - FREE ! Eat in
only, no to-go plates, so you get to
visit with your neighbors or meet
new ones.

The lady who runs the ice house made
all the hams and turkeys, green beans,
corn, mashed potatoes, and stuffing,
and was going to pay her workers out
of her own pocket, but the Community
Association stepped in, and paid the
workers directly. I think we served
over 300 plates!

Any left-overs will go to the Baptist
Church for their free food pantry, free
weekly dinner, and free Sunday breakfast.

My mouth is watering!

I ordered Chinese. Well, I'm having a Thai dish, but the others are going with Chinese. Should be here any minute.

I had lunch yesterday with a friend and today DH & I went to church and picked up the pies I ordered. I didn't realize they would be fresh so I froze them so they would still be good for Thanksgiving. I'll defrost the night before. Momala, any suggestions for reheating?

Made stuffed peppers tonight. Rice, Feta, roasted chick peas, and more seasonings. So delish. I am moving to a more vegetarian meal life style. I longer feel "gross" of "over full" It feels perfect.

I'm the same way. I still want meat, and I do eat it, mostly for breakfast or lunch.

But I had a pretty basic salad for lunch, lettuce, grape tomatoes, shredded cheddar, and ranch, and I'm still paying for it. Haven't had anything since. I just feel way too full.

FNW ~

Move them from the freezer to
the refrigerator Wednesday
morning, then to the counter
Thursday morning, loosely
covered with plastic wrap.

They will reheat best if done
in the oven, after the turkey
comes out, at a very low
temp - about 250 - 300.

If you have pumpkin, it will
probably "weep" - get drops
of moisture on top. Just
blot it up with a paper towel.
Pecan & apple will be good
uncovered.

Thank you, Mom! We have pumpkin, apple pecan crisp, and coconut. The coconut one says it stays fresh until 11/30 so I didn't freeze that one.

Yeah, you could drive yourself crazy with this.  I had that issue one year, and the best advice I got was that you are responsible for what you do, and the people receiving are responsible for what they do.  Being kind and giving is what is right - don't let the abusers bring you down.
