Why, oh why...do little girls ever think it's a good idea, to cut their own hair?
Yesterday, Cate wanted to cut out some shapes. So, we got the paper and safety scissors out...and cut out some shapes, at the table in the breakfast room.
A show came on that Cate wanted to watch, so, I went to the kitchen, to get lunch started.
I didn't notice, that she had taken the scissors with her.
Until, a couple minutes later, she came to me, with a little piece of hair, and the scissors.
Holy Mother of God, what did you do?
Cate says, "My hair was too long, so, I cut it."
I took the scissors, and ran over to the sofa, and found a little pile of hair on the carpet.
I could have died.
Luckily, she didn't take a lot off. But, enough that it needed some fixing.
"Cate honey, cutting your own hair is not a good idea. Tell your Mommy and Daddy, if you want a hair cut. Okay?"
"Okay, Grandma. I'm sorry."
Well, I was worried that Jessi was going to be upset with me, when I dropped Cate off.
And, Jessi, couldn't have been sweeter. She actually laughed, and said her niece just did the same thing, and did way worse damage!
I felt terrible. But, Jessi gave Cate a trim. And, it looks fine. Jessi wasn't upset in the least.
Mere never took scissors to her own hair, as a kid. Neither did I. But, plenty of Mere's friends did. Oy!
So, back to my original question...why...oh why, do little girls ever think, it's a good idea, to cut their own hair?
Awe! I believe for some little girls it’s a right of passage, any you are a wonderful grandma fwm. My granddaughter wounds comb in her hair pretty tight and it got stuck at the scalp, my daughter couldn’t untangle it and due to the covid shutdowns she couldn’t take her to a beauty salons, so she had to cut it out of her hair and do the best she could, her hair looked pretty funky for awhile.
I remember cutting mine a few times and mom would be so upset. My granddaughter regularly chopped at hers. She hated her long hair but her mother wouldn't let her get it cut. But then, her mother never kept a good eye on her so.... chop, chop, chop. Lol
When I was in fourth grade, I remember going to Texas to spend Christmas with my grandmother, it was really cold and I sat close to her wall heater and it shinged my hair, my mom gave me a pixie haircut.
