The only hint I can think of is make a list of what you want to bring then check things off as they're packed. Bring the list with you to make sure you don't forget anything.
A week from Wednesday I leave on vacation! I have not been on a plane in about 8 years. Any travel tidbits I need to know? And helpful hints?
beach, here I come! I so need some time off
When you get on the plane, don't hesitate to ask the flight attendant for a seat belt extended. (Unless you're skinny, which I am not.)
They save money by making the seatbelts shorter .
Luckily, that's not an issue for me. At a petite feet-feet, I'm the one that doesn't even mind the dreaded middle seat. Other then messing with the angle of my tray table, the person in front of my can recline their seat without running into my legs
how early do I need to get to the airport? What about luggage, can you still lock your bags?

For domestic flights, they recommend 2 hours, but you usually don't need that much time. We don't have locks for luggage, so I'm not sure.
My advice: Take nothing and buy it all there!!!!!!

There are TSA-approved little padlocks. The only reason to use them is to prevent the bag from unzipping accidentally.
Anyone who wants to get into them can quickly and easily rip open the zipper.
So try not to pack anything worth stealing.
The approved padlocks all have a TSA number on them, so the agents will know which key to use to open them.
One time when I got to the hotel, I found a note inside my suitcase saying it had been inspected. Another time the lock had been ripped off, along with the thing that opens and closes the zipper.

Also - no containers with more than 3 ozs. of anything. You can't take drinks past security, you have to buy after you get past that.
If you are taking electronics on the plane, make them accessible b/c they make you take them out for the screening. Wear socks b/c you have to remove your shoes. Don't bother with a belt - you'll have to take it off.

I can explain it to you, but I can't understand it for you.

I always wear sandals when I fly...no jewelry or underwire bra.
Bring/wear a jacket or sweater - the plane can get uncomfortably chilly.
Bring towelettes (individual ones, in foil) for use on the plane.
If your flight is more than 2 hours, bring some moisturizer for your face and arms - the air in the cabin is very dry.
