I love Halloween! People around here don't really get into it like when we were kids. I wish I could find a community that still knew had to have fun without everyone thinking it's evil.
I loooove Halloween! I can't wait for this year I have already started buying new decorations.
I go to the casino every year and watch the costume contests, people come up with some really great costumes. I've entered once or twice but never gotten better than 3rd place.

Personally, I could skip Halloween without a thought. It is my least favorite time of the year. But, I know others enjoy the dickens out of it and I'm okay with that.
The grand kids love dressing up and getting treats. And, I do decorate very simply for them. Otherwise a fall wreath would be it for me. And, I only put the Halloween stuff up on Halloween day.
Yeah, I'm weird like that.

I decorate for fall, not for Halloween specifically. However, it is DD's FAVORITE holiday (she likes it more than Christmas even). Then again, her apartment is decorated with those type of decorations all year round (glitter skulls, crystal balls, her cat is black and is named Elvira).
I never did like dressing up in costume. I would have preferred just buying new clothes vs a costume. Lol

I have always found Halloween to be kind of confusing.
I mean you teach your kids to not take candy from strangers but once a year you dress them in crazy costumes and send them right up to a stranger's door to beg for candy.
Funny to me.

Well that all started before we had to protect our children from lunatics. It's still fun to decorate and play dress up to attend a party. No one here takes kids door to door. They do the church hosted fall festival, no ghosts and goblins and dead looking people. I will be coming back from vacation on Halloween so I'm not doing anything. Next time I attend a party I plan to dress up as wonder woman, hot red boots and all. I'm not hot like Linda Carter so I will have a skirt over my tard.
chef, those spider shoes are awesome! Very cool! Scare your family! Freak out your pets!! Nightmares galore!
I don't have any kids, and have not done the costume thing in a few years. Last year at work I was approached by a few people to dress up as a character from the TV show Revolution. They wanted me to be Miles Matheson (played by actor Billy Burke). Unfortunately, any kind of weapons or representations thereof (including toy and plastic ones) are a big no-no in our building. So that idea was thrown out. Not sure if we are going to do anything at work this year. Some co-workers always dress up, but not very many.
In the past, I have cosplayed the 8th and 10th Doctors, but the series is not very big where I live. I would love to do a group get-together and walk around the mall. But finding other Whovians in my area is difficult.
My usual M.O. for Halloween is to buy some candy I like, turn off the ceiling light (so no one knocks on the door), and just stay in and watch the telly. There are not many kids in the neighbourhood anyway, which is great.

That is so cool!
I really want to do Doctor Who theme costumes, but I'm not very creative. DH said he will do it with me, but he would rather dress up like 10 or 11, but he looks more like 9. I want to do River Song, or I saw a really cool weeping angel costume that would be fun.
I did buy DD6 a dress that is 10th doctor themed. It doesn't fit her yet, but it will be so cool when it does!
I always loved Halloween. The neighborhood I lived in had lots of kids. I would get a big bowl of candy and sit on the porch for trick-or-treat. Where I live now, I really don't have neighbors for trick-or-treat; we only have 2. The neighbor across the street has a Halloween party every year. I think I'm going to be Belle from Beauty & the Beast year. I even decided not to cut my hair before the wedding so it will still be long enough for her bow :)
For the Halloween lovers: My Haunting season has begun! These are all day time pics. I still need to get some night ones!

Do any of you marvelous ghostly geeks have suggestions of costumes I could make for our seniors? 4 are in wheelchairs, and most could not wear a mask. I've thought of Salt & Pepper Shakers for a couple, made out of rolled corregated cardboard with a huge S or P on the front; a "loaded" dice, made up of white-washed liquor box, with arm holes & neck hole, with mini liquor bottles where the spots should be on the dice. Any other suggestions? Need about 12-14 in all.

Witches are easy to pull off. So are pirates and vampire. If you are looking for more "out of the box ideas: A mayor- wear a suit, top hat and a Mayor of Whatever sash. Candy- cardboard boxes painted to look like popular candy wrappers. Food- cardboard cut and painted to look like foods, eggs, bacon, toast, donuts, you could even do an orange juice and the group could be the "Breakfast Club. Game show contestant- cardboard to look like the contesants podium thing. Lego Bricks- Made with carboard and solo cups. Deck of cards- paint carboard to look like a deck of cards, maybe with a card or two poking out. Pair it with poker chips- circles painted like chips. God's gift to women/men- box wrapped like a present with the tag saying God's gift to whichever. Get some cardboard boxes that fit over the wheelchair, and paint them to look like various vehicles (Monster truck, bus, ice cream truck, batmobile- lots of options). The person would be the driver.
I'm not sure what the personalities are like for the people, so I tried to give you a variety. It's awesome of you to do this for them.

I saw the Halloween episode from criminal minds season 6 last night. Little Jack wanted to dress up as a super hero, so he dressed up as his dad. Had me tearing up.

Demonia, you have some serious talent! WOW!!!
Looks like you live on a farm. You have lots of space!!!
There is a family about 15 miles south of us that own land along the highway. They cleared the corner and place a large round bale, wrapped in black plastic, with a white spider face. They use PVC pipe for huge legs to match the sized of the bale, orange and black strips painted on the PVC. Behind the humongous spider, they hang volleyball netting for a web. All the different paints used are glow in the dark. It is really cool at night as well as the daytime.

LL, those were easy to make and look even more ghostly at night. Chicken wire, shaped in the dress style of your choice, light coat of white spray paint, light coat of glowin the dark paint, and you're set! We added a ribbon to one and a scarf on the other to mix it up a bit, but it isn't necessary. You can also do full human like forms, but they are more difficult and I'm not sure I'd have the patience to do all that shaping!

It looks my Halloween is going to be LAME again this year. For the past three years, for some reason I always end up moving right over Halloween! I think it's cursed, which is appropriate I guess.
