DH/DD's teams are on a 3 day road trip. I am alone and loving it!
I am exhausted though. I pack snack bags for the girls to eat while on the trip. Sometimes they can eat meals at funny times, or if they have to stay and watch the other team play, it could be awhile before they get to eat. Last year, when DH was not in charge, the junior and seniors would steal all the snacks and hide them from the other girls. So this year, I pack individual snack bags for each girl based on a spread sheet of items she has chosen.
In order to pack the bags I had to buy (the school pays, I just do the shopping):
150 fruit snacks 8 boxes of granola 5 lbs trail mix 5 giant boxes wheat thins 8 big cartons of goldfish crackers 5 big boxes of cheese it's 8 bags of mini rice cakes 8 bags regular rice cakes
12 boxes of teddy Graham's.
I came in under half of the budgeted amount for snacks. That's primarily how I got stuck with this job. Lol

Out of all the lies I have told, "just kidding" is my favorite !
My car is 4 miles shy of 100,000! I was going to drive around tonight to get to the mark, but the little light for low tire pressure came on, so I figured I should come home. So, tomorrow is the day! I get home and tell my dad about the light, here is our conversation:
Me: the tire pressure light came on
Dad: you should check that tomorrow
Me: sure, but if you don't help, it will require me to go to the store for a little tester thingy. Wait, no, it will require me to drive to the auto parts store and ask the guy there to check them
Dad: *rolls eyes* you should know how to do this
Me: I know how to do it, I just don't have to :)
Today was our school's homecoming parade and football game. We put together a float for the library about 1 1/2 hrs before the parade. It was cold and windy - 45 mile an hour gusts. We won best float, which is pretty good for just throwing it together. We had the elementary girl's flag football team ride the float, and had 2 stuffed animals each wearing one of the team's colors and football helmet. Taped them to a chair and put a book on top of the head of the "opponent" and had signs that said "Close the book on the Rams" . Oh,and our football team won their game 34 - 6.
DG, before you drive the car, LOOK AT THE TIRES. Just make sure none of them look seriously flat.
When you're checking them (or having them checked) remember that the spare tire is monitored by the system too.
What does that mean ed?
TLC, sounds fun!
Most newer cars have tire pressure sensors in each wheel. When the pressure in any of the tires drops below a certain point, probably about 28 p.s.i., that triggers a warning light on the dashboard.
When people are checking tire pressure at a gas station, using a hand-held pressure gauge and an air pressure hose, they (we) usually test the four tires we can see, but not the spare, which is usually burried under stuff in the trunk, or (in some cars) hanging under the back of the car.
So if the low pressure light comes on, all four tires on the road can be fine. If so, the problem is usually low pressure in the spare.

My car has a computer display, it shows which tire is low and what the pressure is. The rear passenger tire is at 27, the rest are at 28. This reminds me, I need to have my dad check that before he leaves. I didn't drive my car yesterday so I forgot
Oh that's good to know. My current car doesn't have a spare it has one of those kits where you fill up your tire with gunk
Ugh! That means you'd better have a working cell phone, and an Auto Club membership.
This flat inflators will work ONLY if there's a slow leak, typically around a nail in the tire tread, and even if the gunk seals the leak, the tire pressure will be too low for safe driving. If the problem is in the sidewall (been there, done that) the tire is shot. Nothing will inflate it.
Is there room in the trunk for a real tire and wheel? And a jack? You probably don't have a jack either.

Yes, 28 could be marginal. There should be a plate mounted somewhere on the frame around the driver's door, that shows proper inflation pressure.
If I don't know what the pressure should be, I usually go for 32 psi, until I can find out.
The sidewall of every tire will tell you what the maximum safe pressure is.

I do have a jack, I suppose I could fit a small spare back there. Can you buy just a spare tire?

As it turns out, I don't have a spare either. I do have a working cell phone and AAA. Plus, one of the benefits of moving home, I've got countless people I could call at any hour of the day to come help me

Yes, any tire dealer will be happy to set you up, and probably show you how to jack up the car and change the tire.
For the lowest cost you might try a junk yard, but you'd have to know what you're doing. The tire has to be the right size and be mounted on the right wheel for your car.
You don't need an expensive tire for a spare. A cheap tire and a steel wheel, with mounting and balancing, should be about $100 to $150. A good tire dealer might even have a used tire, with a little tread left, for less money. Or one of those "donut" spares.
Junk yards will have unused donut spares already on wheels. Make sure the wheel has the right number of bolt holes.
Are you SURE you don't have one of them already? What kind of car? What year? It could be buried deep under the storage bin under the trunk floor.
Again, a good tire dealer should be happy to show you.
A donut spare already on a wheel should be about $50.

No I decided against that seeing as how I've never towed a thing in my life. I'm just going to drive down for now and put my stuff in storage. It's my cheapest, safest short term option. That means I have to cram a dog and two spiders in my car but we'll be okay.

Vette - have you looked into the cost of a POD? Then your stuff is shipped and you drive your car. I have no idea the cost, but you might want to check.

I can explain it to you, but I can't understand it for you.
For ed- I have a 2004 Mazda RX-8, I'm pretty sure there's no spare...
Okay, you don't have one:
Relocating a Mazda rx-8 spare tire?
I recently purchased a 04 Mazda rx-8 and the spare tire takes up roughly 50% of the trunk space. Was wondering if anyone (with experience) knows somewhere else I could mount it
Your spare tire & mounting kit is actually an option from Mazda. The RX8 does not come with a spare tire as standard equipment. Instead, Mazda supplies a flat tire emergency kit which comes with a compressor and a can of leak sealant.
Most RX8 owners don't bother buying the spare tire kit just because of the problems you've got...it takes up too much room. There is no place to relocate the spare. I owned my 8 for 5 years and did have a flat once (picked up a couple nails). I left the nails in the tire and filled the tire with the compressor a couple times until I could get the tire repaired.
As long as you have the repair kit I would ditch the spare for now, and maybe reinstall it if you are going to take a long trip or plan some winter driving in places you may run into trouble, but that's it.
You can mount it on the roof, front bumper, rear bumper or on the wall of the garage. If you don't want to be tacky, in the garage looks best. If you want to keep it with you, design a Continental kit for the RX-8 and put it on the market.
Depending upon your priorities and commitment how about getting a set of run flat rims and tires and at quantity FOUR. It will be a bit expensive but otherwise it is probably best left alone.

POD? I've never heard of it, I'll look it up right now. Hopefully that would be cheaper than shipping my car which I also looked into to save miles on it

It's basically a big shipping container you pack yourself, and they move it for you from point A to point B.
