O4, according to reports this one traveled BEFORE the nurse showed any symptoms.

BUT it does beg the question as to why those who work with these patients are not tested at least every other day? Wouldn't it show in the blood before the symptoms start? If caught that early, containment could be a whole lot easier to manage.

Nope.  The first nurse was diagnosed on Friday 10/11.  The second nurse flew on Monday 10/13.  No way did she not know.  She put everyone at risk. I hope she loses her license...

I hope she didn't know.

But at the same time, they are told as long as they are showing no symptoms they are fine and not contagious.

I don't believe it.

I want to see more active monitoring.

Czech, I hope not. Those nurses are heros.

They're talking about the "copious" amount of fluids that nurses deal with while caring for ebola patients. Ugh.

We have a patient here in Omaha. Yeah, nurses are talking about relinquishing their licenses.

A major disaster team was set up after 9/11 in our state. All nurses are registered to serve in case of a disaster. An ebola outbreak of major proportions would qualify for enactment of the disaster protocol.

I will relinquish mine in a heartbeat to save my family.

If the hospital doesn't step up to the plate, then you might see a mass walkout by health care workers. They shouldn't have to die because hospitals are too cheap or lazy to get the proper equipment.

Not only health care workers, but janitors, maintenance, food services, laundry, and cleaning workers. There will be a massive affect to all at risk. People don't realize what all health care truly entails. And their families, friends, the business's they frequent, etc. I hope you all get the picture that this is not just a nurses issue.

No. It isn't just a nurses issue. I understand that.

I also understand the investigation to find out where protocol failed. That is what the questioning is about. Not blame.

DALLAS (Reuters) - A second Texas nurse who has contracted Ebola told a U.S. health official she had a slight fever and was allowed to board a plane from Ohio to Texas, a federal source said on Wednesday, intensifying concerns about the U.S. response to the deadly virus.

The nurse, Amber Vinson, 29, flew from Cleveland to Dallas on Monday, the day before she was diagnosed with Ebola, the U.S. Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) said.

Vinson told the CDC her temperature was 99.5 Fahrenheit (37.5 Celsius). Since that was below the CDC's temperature threshold of 100.4F (38C), "she was not told not to fly," the source said. The news was first reported by CNN.

Chances that other passengers were infected were very low because Vinson did not vomit on the flight and was not bleeding, but she should not have been aboard, CDC Director Dr. Thomas Frieden told reporters.

Vinson's trip to visit family members in Ohio put a second U.S. metropolitan area on Ebola alert. She is related to three Kent State University employees and the school's health services director, Dr. Angela DeJulius, said they had been asked to remain off campus for 21 days.

They will monitor themselves for possible symptoms of Ebola, she said.

Cleveland Clinic and the Metro Health System said they had put on paid leave employees, mostly nurses, who were on Vinson's flight to Cleveland from Dallas. They were returning from a nursing conference in Texas.

Unbelievable we were lied to again about her symptoms. We were told she was showing no symptoms when she was on that plane, but she had a fever.

I haven't gotten to the end of this thread yet, so if this has already been addressed, my apologies. The local news (Austin) reported that the nurse disclosed that she had treated the ebola patient and the CDC cleared her to fly. She isn't the one that needs to be held accountable IMHO.

From NBC NEWS:

Two Cleveland-area schools were closed and a group of nurses were told to stay home Thursday as authorities tracked an Ebola-stricken nurse's travels in Ohio. Amber Vinson, 29, who treated Ebola victim Thomas Eric Duncan, flew to Ohio on Oct. 10 and then back to Texas on Monday before she tested positive for the deadly virus on Tuesday.

With this new information, I completely agree.  The original story was that she had a fever but didn't tell anyone. Then it came out that she DID tell someone and was cleared to fly.  Heads need to roll over this. Totally unacceptable...

I like the republican from Missouri. He just off loaded on them for being fear mongering.

He said he has no doubt that travel restrictions will be imposed and it will make as much sense as cleaning the plane 4 times. It's for show but doesn't change a thing.

Like that guy a lot.

Dr. Fauci says the concern is a mutated virus. There are 5 strains currently. If it mutates we're in trouble.

Bottom line folks, decisions will be based on cost (money). That is why there are no travel restrictions in place world wide. We can't let this effect economies, IMHO.

Yes.  If it gets airborne, about 50% of us are dead within a year if it is not contained.

They quarantined two students who were on an airplane with that nurse. They live not far from me.

I don't think I follow the logic that travel restrictions won't help more than cleaning a plane 4 times.  The plane should have been clean after the first time.  But travel restrictions?  Those could help if done properly.  We now have potential ebola cases in Ohio because of TRAVEL.

The nurse that is infected is going to be transferred to where I work. Not same building, but one that I attend meetings. And one where my co-workers at times frequent.

There is one in Atlanta at Emory.

Is there another somewhere?

I don't want to play with this. This will be the first year we all get the Flu Vaccine simply because I don't want to confuse the symptoms and end up in an ER with someone else who may have Ebola. No it isn't about freaking out. It is more about not taking an unnecessary risk.

And if it is ever linked to the school my boys are in. I will pull them in a heart beat and we will become home schoolers. Their are plenty of online class rooms to do that now. Even their school has virtual rooms.

I am not willing to risk my family's health with this.

So the one who flew after talking to the CDC with symptoms died first.

She must have been far worse than reported cause that was way faster than the others have progressed.

From the Post article: Pham, 26, is one of two nurses at Texas Health Presbyterian Hospital who came down with Ebola while treating Thomas Eric Duncan, a Liberian who arrived in Dallas with the virus. The other, Amber Vinson, 29, has been transferred to Emory University Hospital in Atlanta. Duncan later died of the disease."

This was predicted to happen a long time ago. It finally arrived and now the CDC is failing all over the place, IMHO.
I no longer have much faith in the CDC. Epic fail in the making, I'm afraid.
