It's an interesting point of view but I don't think it's ever going to happen. But, young people want to use substances. We can pretend that they don't or won't but the reality is that they do. And, European countries seems to manage it.
blaming alcohol for sexual assault? No. Character flaws, lack of judgement, lack of respect, and just being ****ty people are to blame.
I don't think alcohol is to blame for sexual assault. I think alcohol has a lot to do with morning after regret, though.
It's an interesting theory. It matches up to my "everything in moderation" way of thinking towards candy for kids, etc. (except soda - NO soda for growing children).
I mean, let's face it - drinking got a lot less fun when it was no longer taboo.
This bothers me a lot -
"By tilting the burden of proof against the accused, the law will likely produce more accusations of rape, more rape convictions under due-process-free judiciary proceedings, and ultimately, more lawsuits. Since its most pronounced effect is to make sex more burdensome and hazardous, it's no wonder that some social conservatives have joined the far left in cheering its passage (the sexual revolution is being undone before their very eyes). But it's doubtful that the law will actually deter rape."
I'm a conservative and I think that law is stupid.

I grew up in Ohio. And before this stupid law passed, you could legally drink "Low Beer" (3.2 % alcohol) at 18. In my opinion, it gave kids between the ages of 18 and 21, a way to learn how to drink responsibly.
Kind of like having your learners permit for a while, before you get your driver's license.
I wish states would go back to the way it was. We had far fewer problems, back in the day.
I agree. I think it's stupid you can do everything at 18 except drink. Either you are an adult at 18 or you are not.
Exactly. But, then neither should parents be forced to pay for college or pay your way in life. If you are an adult, you are an adult. If you have sucky parents, that is unfortunate, but at some point you have to OWN your life.

Parents are not forced to pay for college.

There have been parents who have been sued in that regard. And the same with adult children who should not have to be responsible for their parents bills. Yes, I know they aren't now but I think that is in the air. If you have an irresponsible parent who frittered away all their money how are you supposed to control that? Adults need to solely be accountable and responsible for themselves.

The only time I'm aware when parents can be forced to pay for college is as part of their divorce agreement.

I think it should go back to 18 too. When I was 18 we couldn't drink in VA but you could still drink in DC so we'd drive the 30 miles to Georgetown. Then drive drunk to get back home. Thankfully nothing bad ever happened but there was a lot of potential. Keep in mind this was back in the 80s before the DUI laws were so strict.
