To help parents better understand the common core math theorems and better equip the parents to help their children think deeper about math. 

 

I should go to this.  But I don't want to.  bleh

You know the system is effed up when parents have to go back to school to learn what their kids are learning in school.

I think it's really ridiculous that they change math so much that parents have to go back to school.

Well, according to some teachers, they are trying to build engineering minds. Make them understand the concepts of math from the ground up rather than just learning to do it.

If you have the chance take it.

Believe me it just gets harder and harder as they go through school.

My Aunt use to call me to help her daughter, my younger cousin, with her math homework.

I have had to get my kids to ask older cousins how to do their math home work too.

It's crazy.

And 2+2 still equals 4. Except when it doesn't.

Nothing is wrong with math the way it is. It produced astronaunts,scientist,engineers,people who invented computers,etc.etc....

I have mo problem with there being a math class for parents. I know too many adults who can't add or subtract.

Some of these are people who use "to, too, two" interchanably, and "there, their,  their" interchangably.

I think you should go, LL. When I try to help DD with her math homework, I can do the problems, but not the WAY she has to have them done. The practice sheets they send home to demonstrate the methodology are pretty useless, too. It is very frustrating for both of us. When I just can't figure out what the teacher is looking for, I have DD call my cousin who is a middle school math teacher for help.
