this was 20 years ago in a town of 600 people. I could do what ever I wanted. And quite frankly? Yeah, even now I would do it.

I don't need these plants, they're a waste of money because I'm a serial plant killer, but hey, I like them for the little while they live. We all have our splurges.

My soul sister!! I always tell people plants come to my house to die.

We should start a club. This is me too. But I love them anyway.

Can I join the club? This is why I love cut flowers. I know they are going to die soon anyway so I have no guilt and can just enjoy them.

20 years ago you didn't have facebook.

The school is NOT responsible for setting up a time for you to berate kids about crap they do OUTSIDE of school time.  Take it up with their parents.

And I think it's harder when the kids are using screen names and you don't know who they are

It's also bad precedent to set that every time another kid might make fun of yours that you are going to get all up in arms about it.

Life doesn't work that way. Mommy might be able to do that when their kid is 10--it doesn't work that way with college professors, employers, etc... later in life.

Even if you do know who they are, it's ridiculous to think that you should be able to go to a school--which has NOTHING to do with the bullying--and get some sort of pulpit to berate other kids for crap that happens OUTSIDE of school time and off of school property.

I don't think she actually talked to them. I think she just sat through the day and let them know she was watching.

Nah.  I succeeded.  No berating necessary.  I just had to sit there.  But thanks for your advice!

I did it to a teacher too. He complained about my kid so I sat in on the class for a week. No problems after that.

But this isn't 20 years ago.  You aren't going to stop kids from posting on facebook.

Do you go to work with your kid to make sure their boss doesn't pick on them?

Lol. I didnt get everyone in the gymnasium and yell at them. We're talking a class of 24 5th graders.

I wasn't a helicopter parent. We simply didnt have the resources then that you have today. And no one was gonna tell a parent they couldnt be in the class.

Shrug...I protected my kid. My kid knew without a doubt that I had her back and sometimes? Kids need that.

Nah. By that time I had taught her some really good life skills. I kicked her out at 18 though. Made her live in a tent in the back yard. Had to hunt her own food...fight her own bears.

Ok, that part isnt true. But no, I fought her battles when she was 10. It was unnecessary after that.

That sounds like helicopter parenting to me.

Well she was 10. But whatever. Shes a pretty well adjusted adult and a pretty awesome mom so Im good with my decision.

I laugh about it because I was the first to do it but not the last. I was an effin trend setter!

I probably should be embarrassed about it. Eh, it was 21 years ago. I'm not gonna worry.

But the fact is this...you dont want to mess with my kid. I just cant see sending your kid into the lions den.

I like my kids and don't want.t them jumping off a god damn cement tower. If that means helicoptering until they have skills? I'm ok with that.

Fine.  Whatever.  But that is still not remotely comparable to this situation.  It's not some type of "solution" here.

What "room"????  Where is this magical room that all cyber bullies congregate in?

It's usually called "school".

Not in this case. She transferred schools.  She was not in the same room as the bullies.

A school certainly isn't going to let some random parent who doesn't even have a child attending their school--take up school time to rant about activities that aren't even taking place at their school.

Did I ever tell you about my former co-worker, whose son was in a "bullying" episode on Oprah

Other than one kills people, and the other just drives people to suicide,

What are the differences (if any) between terrorism and bullying?

Both are acts perpetrated with the intention of making people afraid. Both make the perpetrators feel powerful.

Gangs do it with guns and knives.

ISIS does it with guns, knives, and bombs.

Students do it with physical violence and/or emotional violence.

Well, getting your head cut off is NOT REMOTELY the same thing as getting stuffed in a trash can or getting called some names on facebook.

That's just a silly comparison.

Haven't heard much about the "knockout game" recently, but wasn't it something people do to spread fear? Just like the Boston Marathon bombing?

No.  It's not "just like" the Boston Marathon Bombing.

It's terrible--but it's not remotely the same thing.  It's not politically motivated.  It focuses on one person--rather than killing/injuring SCORES of them.

Quit being ridiculous.

All of the targets in New York were religious Jews. I don't recall how many died, but some had serious brain injuries.

Scores WERE injured, just not all at once.

DD will be getting a phone within a year. I am redoing my bills, don't need the home phone but because she comes home after school on the bus, once I have no home phone she will need some form of communication. I am saving 250/month by having her come home on the bus vx the afterschool progam. She is only home alone for 45 minutes max and most of the mothers in my hood are SAHM and know she is home.
