Thank you all. I feel very bad for the family. They have been hit hard lately, very hard. cry

Their (co-workers) grandson (age 6) is scheduled to have cranial surgery tomorrow. The co-workers wife's SIL, niece and nephew were in a major car wreck on the 11th and now this.

I feel terrible for all of them. They are getting crushed.

I went to the clinic. I got a z-pac and some cough medicine. She considered an inhaler, but my cough is better than it was so we're doing the antibiotics, cough pearls, and over the counter Musinex D. It is helping, but my jaw and teeth and face still hurt.

Acute sinusitis with my cold.

Wow LL, you really did a good job of getting sick. The antibiotics will start kicking in and you will be better just in time for the weekend!

Have you used those cough pearls before? Be very careful with them. They can not burst. They can cause you to not be able to breathe if it bursts and the liquid gets in your lungs.

But they work well. I love them.

And warm compresses for your face. You can use the sensitivity toothpaste to help numb the pain in your teeth. Orajel too.

I really hope you get better fast.

I am so sorry for that family.  They need love and support for a long time.  How horrible.

It has some numbing stuff in it. It dissolves and stops the pain but if it dissolves to high up it can be bad.

It's cough medicine in a little circle gel pill form - instead of drinking it.

GENERIC NAME: benzonatate

BRAND NAME: Tessalon Perles; Zonatuss

DRUG CLASS AND MECHANISM: Benzonatate is a medication taken orally to suppress coughs. It has an anesthetic (numbing) action similar to that of benzocaine and numbs the stretch sensors in the lungs. It is the stretching of these sensors with breathing that causes the cough. Benzonatate begins to work within 15 to 20 minutes, and its effects last for approximately 3 to 8 hours. Benzonatate is unrelated to narcotics such as codeine which are frequently used to suppress coughs. (Another frequently used cough suppressant, dextromethorphan, which is found in many over-the-counter cough and cold preparations, is a derivative of the narcotics.)

I love cough syrup with codeine! I had it once and started getting crazy. It was a hoot. I was accusing people of nipping at my medicine.

I have some of those.  They are great.  I also have some cough syrup with codeine in it too.  Awesome stuff.

The pearls are non-narcotic, so not addictive.

So, we bought this stuff called "Snow to go" when we were at the Christmas Place. It is the coolest thing ever. You put 4 little scoops in a bowl and add a cup of water - and you instantly have play snow. The kids are just fascinated. And watching how instantly it expanded from tiny little powder in the bowl to a full bowl of snow was one of the coolest things I've seen. And this thing has about 40 scoops in the can.

Sounds like the stuff we put in suction cannisters after surgery. It turns all the liquid into that stuff. It's such a pain to clean up if some of the granules scatter.

The last cold I had the codeine stuff didn't work. The pearls didn't work. Nothing worked. It was horrible.

I about killed myself with the codeine cough medicine one time.

It was a liquid and I just glanced at the label and saw it said 1-2 teaspoons. So I take 2 teaspoons and get in the shower and by the time I got out I was loopy. I got dried and dressed and into the living room and my husband looked at me and I remember him asking how much I had taken and him helping me walk down the hall.

I was out buddy. I mean out cold. For a good 12 hours I didn't move. my hubs got me up to go to bathroom and would take me back to bed. I remember trying to get up sometime the next day and he had to help me cause I was still so out of it.

I don't remember the name of this stuff I took but I remember looking at the label again after I could focus and it said to take it with a full glass of water.

It was a very potent almost pure codeine.

The only other time I ever remember being that out of it was when I was being to sleep for surgery.

Now I read labels very carefully. Very, very carefully.
