I got a really bad kidney infection last week and ended up finding out I have a 20+ growth that needs to be removed. The good thing is that I will lose 20+ lbs as soon as they do the surgery. Bad thing is I have to go to a care facility to build up strength. I just thought I'd let people know.

Prayers coming your way, tlc. I hope you can be online while you're recovering so you can update us and we can all keep you company (as well as entertained, lol)!
(((((tlc))))) I am sorry to learn that you are sick. I hope you will soon be strong enough to have the surgery. Wishing you much strength to get through this and get well. Sending healing and positive energy your way.
I've seen this type of surgery, it's pretty straightforward. I'm sure it's scary; I'm also sure you will be fine.
Rest as much as you need to. Do you have someone who will be with you while you're in the hospital?
I learned long ago, that everyone should have an advocate with them, someone to make sure the doctors and nurses are paying attention and reading the charts correctly.
And to go get someone if/when an IV pump starts to alarm. Those alarms are often ignored in some places, and that can compromise patent care.
If you haven't already, talk with your doctor abut post-op pain management. Make sure you understand what the plan is.
Also, tell your doctors -- all of them -- that no one should work on you or consult on your treatment who is NOT participating in your insurance coverage. You shouldn't have any expensive surprises. Tell that to the Admissions clerk, and make sure they put it into your admission papers.

That's good. Next see if your surgeon can tell you which anesthesiologist s/he works with most, then (1) make sure that doctor is in your Plan, and (2) check out their record with whatever agency follows up on licensing doctors and handling issues. Find out whether the anesthesiologist has ever had any disciplinary problems.
In New York, it's the Department of Education.

I'm hoping its just a very large ovarian cyst. They already have a team working on it.. they just want to be careful. Sounds like Omaha has the best docs for this. I've come a long way from renal failure since Saturday.
Wow TLC, I am so glad you checked in here. Please let us entertain you while you are laid up. And I know you will get better, you have a great family support system.

Sorry to hear this, TLC. But, on the bright side, Omaha has some of the best hospitals in the nation, so you will be in good hands.
I don't know where you are going to be hospitalized, but I do know Creighton has a great rep.

Yes I think I'm lucky to live where I do. I think it will be at Methodist. Think they are all good there.

Methodist Hospital has one of the best Barista's around! Get some coffee from there!! If you can, that is.

So sorry to hear this TLC. I know how much your library and kiddos will miss you! Heck, WE'LL miss you. I hope you can be online. I will say a prayer for your recovery.
