Physical therapy just came to see if I could get up. I got a sock, brace and shoe on one leg and stood up on the one leg for a a few minutes . Now sitting in chair.

Just getting out of bed seems to make a person feel better.
I hope this time passes quickly for you.

Stents didn't happen today. I was prepped and in the room then they got a call from the doc that they needed special stents and didn't have them so it has to be rescheduled for tomorrow..
I have to wonder what they mean by special stents? I sold stents for 7 years, and I'm really curious.
They will probably leave them in place for several days after the surgery. Just having them in the ureters is irritating, and if they're taken out right away, the irritation can lead to swelling of the ureteral lining, which could cause a blockage. But after a time, the ureters relax, and will stay open on their own.
I've been in several cases where the stents were placed as the first thing done under anesthesia. It's fast and easy once the patient is asleep.

They plan on getting rid of me the day after tomorrow so I don't know if I'll be able to go home or back to skilled care until the big surgery.
If you go home, will you be able to take care of yourself? The nephrostomy tube will need care, you will have to be able to get to and use the bathroom and kitchen, get yourself into and out of bed.
What do you think? What would you prefer? Home? or skilled care? Don't be shy or accepting if they choose something that doesn't make sense to you.
Have they rescheduled the big surgery? Do you know what they're waiting for now?

Well, it's a good sign that I am able to stand up and get out of bed. I think if the switch swelling keeps going down I won't have trouble getting around. I am going to ask Moore about the tubes.also going to keep asking about big surgery schedule. The problem is scheduling two separate surgeons into a tight operating room schedule.
Just found out that the big surgery to remove my huge mass will be Nov.14th. Not as soon as I would have liked, but at least it's scheduled. After the procedure today they will send me back close e r to home to a step down facility to help me get mobile again.said if leg swelling goes down enough that I can get my other brace on I could go home for A bit also.

Good. I hope the swelling goes down, and that you might be able to go home, if you're up to it.

Well, it isn't as fast as I'd like because I still can't go home because I still have one leg really swollen and can't get my leg brace on so I have to go to a care facility that I will have to pay for out of pocket. I'm afraid this is going to kill me financially. I've never been in the hospital this long before.

I think you need an advocate to talk with your insurance company, and enlist the insurance company to help get this either covered, or done more quickly, unless there is a GOOD CLINICAL reason for this delay.
The health care providers will happily use up all your insurance coverage, and take your house to cover bills that might have been easily avoided.
They're waiting until they can get the right surgeons there at the same time???
I have to tell you, that sounds like B.S.

I hate auto correct!!!The doctors Have to coordinate and there are fewer operating rooms available because of renovations. We talked to some other Drs. Familiar with the case and they also said it would take them that long all s o due to complexity of my situation. It has to be carefully planned and have extra urologist there so kidneys and bladder don't get damaged. My anatomy is all messed up due to other previous surgeries and the sheer size of the mass.

What a nightmare TLC. I so hope things get better for you. I have to wonder if you health insurance has anything to do with the delay, Do you have private insurance or is it medicare? Of course the answer is private, just wonder if others have the same issues.

No I have Medicare but they only pay for so much nursing care and sounds like they won't pay for it all. Trying to get on Medicaid also which I will have to pay for because I am disabled and work part time. But they would pick up more. Won't know though for 45 days.

I suggest that you do NOT pay any bills yourself. With huge medical bills, a lawyer might advise you to file bankruptcy. In most states you would get to keep you house, your car, and most or all of your non-cash, non-jewelry assets.

No. I was released from the Omaha hospital because they can't justify keeping me for another 2 weeks until surgery, so I was sent back to my "home hospital" for skilled nursing care since I can't get up and walk around. I will be here until right before surgery and sent back to the Omaha hospital for the big surgery on the 14th. I've been in 3 different hospitals in the last 2 weeks. It is confusing.

Yeah. It is getting stressful. I've been really tired today from all the chaos yesterday. Good leg is swollen again so can't get up at all. Hopefully tomorrow it will be down again.

Maybe someone could get you some books. Do you like to read? (just kidding)

Are there some puzzle books or something you can do?

I do have a couple of puzzle books. I suck at sudoku so don't play that. I have my kindle and laptop but sometimes it's hard to use them because they are always turning me from side to side. It's just frustrating because my crutches are here and I want to get up.
I couldn't do Sudoku for a long time. Then I got the app on mom's Ipad. It's really not hard. Of course I am still just learning and playing the baby level.

Is that because you have no logic and they keep you occupied longer?
