Any day that TLC – the all dysfunction and mental illness, all the time network — announces that it’s reconsidering the future of its flagship train wreck “Here Comes Honey Boo Boo” ought to be a good day for civilization. But the reason is just too awful.
Deadline reports that TLC now says that “it’s mulling its options” in the wake of a new TMZ report that the show’s matriarch, “Mama June” Shannon, is in a relationship with a convicted child molester. And it gets worse from there. The man, 53-year-old Mark McDaniel, is reportedly an old flame of June’s – and had been seeing her at the time of what TMZ says was his 2004 conviction for forcing oral sex on an 8-year-old child related to June. The site says he was released from prison in March, that June has been seeing him over the past several months — and that she still also has contact with the reported victim. TMZ also posted a photograph of the two together recently in a hotel room. The Daily Mail, meanwhile, has posted McDaniel’s Georgia sex offender registry page, which lists his offense as “aggravated child molestation.”
A spokesperson for TLC, which wrapped shooting on the show’s yet-to-be-aired fourth season in August, told Deadline Thursday, “TLC is not currently in production on ‘Here Comes Honey Boo Boo.’ We are very concerned about this new information and are reassessing the future of the series.”
The show has been controversial for its depiction of the child pageant circuit from its inception, and for generally “making the world a worse place.” And its star June sure can pick them — her former partner Michael Anthony Ford, the father of her elder child Jessica, has served two years for “the sexual exploitation of a child over the Internet,” and Honey Boo Boo’s father, Mike “Sugar Bear” Thompson, has reportedly also spent time in prison for, among other things, robbery and setting someone on fire.
Mama June’s camp has thus far yet to issue a public response to TMZ’s assertions, but perhaps the saddest aspect of the entire tawdry development is how unsurprising it seems. How believable, given the family’s public history. And somewhere in all of this is a real little girl, who’s been paraded around and exploited by not just her family but a cable network for most of her life. And if her show gets canceled, it likely won’t be out of concern for her welfare but a fear that the successful brand has become too tainted.
I never watched the show. Couldn't stand the commercials. Talk about someone who shouldn't reproduce.

I believe she did come out and said it wasn't true, it was at least ten years ago and she dumpted him because of what he did. That said I do not watch the show.

If she dumped him because of it, why is she dating him now? Blech!
Does anyone actually watch that show? I saw 10 minutes of it once. That was enough. Shame on everyone involved. I'm sure they knew from the get go that June is a loser but wanted to make $$ off the show.

I watched about 20 minutes of it once & felt my IQ dropping. The parents went out to dinner & the kids decided to TP their own house as a prank. They must have just come from Sam's club or equivalent because they had cases of TP the kids wasted.

You couldn't pay me to watch that show. The commercials are bad enough.

That TP was from the stock pile they had.
The first time I saw these people was on that toddler and tiara show. The woman paid for all that with money she saved by couponing. Then they did something on her couponing. I think she was on that show one time.
I love watching to couponing shows, wish I could do that.

Did everyone see the artist's impression of the child Alana (I refuse to type or say that repulsive nick-name) constructed entirely out of trash? It is actually quite good...
Never watched that show or any other ridiculous reality made up show. And yeah, they dumped it due to the mother's behavior. Pretty sure that is grounds for a law suit for Boo Boo to file against her mother.

Never watched it. Saw the previews for it and some clips and they were sickening.

Sugar Bear is a sweet heart of a guy. He truly loves mama June and truly loves his family and he is a hard working man. She seems to have commitment issues and always has from what has been disclosed about her history.
And, you can all Diss the family. But, DD and I have watched it from day one. They are actually a very loving family who of course who is rough around the edges but they are genuinely nice and caring people.
TLC canceled reality series "Here Comes Honey Boo Boo" on Friday, a day after news of June "Mama June" Shannon's relationship with a man who was convicted of molesting a young relative of the star surfaced.
On Friday, TLC issued a statement to TheWrap: "TLC has cancelled the series 'Here Comes Honey Boo Boo' and ended all activities around the series, effective immediately. Supporting the health and welfare of these remarkable children is our only priority. TLC is faithfully committed to the children's ongoing comfort and well-being."
The network had previously planned a fifth season of the reality show to premiere in January 2015.
Shannon is allegedly carrying on a relationship with Mark McDaniel, a 53-year-old who served 10 years in prison for molesting an eight-year-old relative of Shannon's. The abuse of the child included forced oral sex. McDaniel was released in March and he's now a registered sex offender in Georgia.
The reality star was reportedly dating McDaniel at the time of abuse and currently remains in contact with the victim -- who would be at least 18 years old now.
Previously, Shannon was in a relationship with Mike "Sugar Bear" Thompson, Alanna "Honey Boo Boo" Shannon's father. They finally married after nine years together in September 2013, which aired on the TLC show. A year later, the couple announced their separation.
"Here Comes Honey Boo Boo," a spinoff of TLC's child pageant series "Toddlers and Tiaras," had been under fire from those who opposed child beauty pageants and the show's portrayal of Southern life, since it premiered in August 2012.
"Honey Boo Boo" had been a consistent ratings winner for TLC. Its premiere episode earned a 1.6 rating in the advertiser-coveted 18-49 demographic, attracting 2.2 million viewers. The Aug. 29, 2012 episode, which aired during the Republican National Convention, made news when it attracted nearly three million viewers and earned a 1.3 rating among the advertiser demo, beating Fox News convention coverage's 1.2 rating and NBC's convention coverage rating of a 1.1.

Unfortunately, canceling the show is probably the worst thing that can happen to this little girl. Now there will be no supervision, no one watching over her, no cameras to document if anything inappropriate happens. With fewer adults watching, it's more likely that the monster will be able to get her alone.

He molested her own daughter. She came out today and said it was her and cut all ties with her mom.
Wait, it was June's own daughter? Is she the older sister on the show with the baby?
Yes. She came out an said that he molested her. She pressed charges at the time, but later dropped them (hmmmm...I wonder why? Pressure from mama maybe?) She said that her relationship with her mother is over now. Now that she's back with him.
How sick does a mother have to be?

OMG, most mothers would want to kill the man who molested their daughter not sleep with him. Now I really really hope Sugar Bear gets Boo Boo out of that house. I imagine the courts would grant him custody under those circumstances.
I've watched this show some and thought they were a hoot. They're not ashamed of who they are and they seemed to be a loving family. I had heard Mama June was putting the money made from the show away for the younger kids' college/future and I admired that.
But now...NO, she should be ashamed of herself. What kind of mother does that to her daughter?
I've watched the show too, Scooby, and I've taken up for them before. But, like you, no longer. This is beyond disturbing.
I don't know about the kids though. Alana can go with her dad, but he's disabled and can't/doesn't work. Jessica's dad is in prison for sexual exploitation of a child and has another 10 years to serve. I don't think she knows who Lauryn's dad is.
Those poor girls. Did they ever really have a chance?

So this is the second man she has dated that has been to prison for inappropriate behavior with children. No those poor girls never stood a chance & now lost their meal ticket.
I just saw on TV that the dad, Sugar bear? has taken Alana to the police station. I don't know any more.
Hopefully he will get custody of her.
The other girls are old enough to get them selves out.
And the baby. One of them has a baby.
What a piece of poop that woman is.

The one that has a baby is the one this latest guy molested when she was 8. Her and her husband have moved with the baby to Alabama. They are a couple of hours away.
Jessica is 17 and Lauryn is 14. The 17 year old may be able to make some decisions for herself, but the 14 year old will need to have someone advocate for her. Since they don't know who her dad is, it will probably be the system and she will most likely be in a foster home. Unless June agrees to let Sugar Bear have her. He seems to love all of the girls...

I know way more about this family than I care too. It's the curse of information retention. I don't forget things and can usually repeat word for word what I've read/heard.

That is so sad. I didn't watch the show but I feel badly for the girls.
Oh I thought the older girls were both, well, older than that.
If the older sister, isn't she the one that had the baby? If she is 17 and married, which I think she is, could take custody of the 14 year old. And they would be able to collect from the state to help with expenses.
I'd rather see sisters stay together if they can.

I really hate to say this, but June needs to loose custody of all her girls. What mother allows her child to be molested and does nothing about it? I would have cut his wanger off myself! It would have been worth the prison time.
